First, it's a great story. The movie is based on a book by the same name by Winston Groom. It's a story of how the most unlikely person leads an extraordinary life. The movie stays true to the book, and it's just pleasantly wonderful.
Second, the cast. Tom hanks would win his second oscar for playing the title character and he deserved it(this is my favorite Tom Hanks movie). But the supporting cast is full of movie greats like Sally Field and Robin Wright, accompanied by some actors that are now household names, but at the time of this movie were just becoming known, specifically Gary Sinise who should have won awards for best supporting actor. Robin Wright plays Jenny in this film and is such a sympathetic character that you grieve for her moment and then grieve with her the next.
This movie won't fit into any genre, one moment it's comedy the next it's drama. It's just fantastic, it is easily in the top 5 movies of the 90s, maybe the best. I think it will be one of the films 100 years from now, people will still want to watch and walk away thankful they spent the time to watch it.

Directed by Robert Zemeckis, who also has another Tom Hanks gem to his credit, "Cast Away", this movie is one of my all time favorites in any genre. A drama, a comedy, a tear-jerker, it is a movie of many genres rolled up into one. A simple man, an innocent on the loose, an idiot savant in one of the most turbulent eras in our nations history, Forrest Gump never waivers in his moral integrity and manages to touch and influence the lives of many - famous and infamous. He is physically handicapped, but becomes an athlete of renown. He has sub-par intelligence but manages a college degree, becomes a decorated soldier in Vietnam, and makes a fortune in the shrimping business. A friendless child (except for Jenny) he develops deep friendships, including Bubba (Mykelti Williamson) a black soldier who indoctrinates him into the shrimping business; Lieutenant Dan (Gary Sinise in one of his best roles) who Forrest looks up to as a role model even when Dan becomes bitter after losing his legs in combat; and he finally wins the love of the wayward childhood friend, Jenny (Robin Wright Penn, also in one of her best roles). Tom Hanks as Forrest is extraordinary...he has so many fine performances, its hard to say this is his best, but it is my personal favorite. In summary, this film is a masterpiece...watch it once or a hundred times, you will always enjoy it. And remember..."life is like a box of chocolates; you never know what you're going to get."

New 4k movie wrapped with glad wrap like you would food. ? ?? I usually buy all my movies from Amazon but not so sure now, last couple I bought came looking like they were wrapped in Glad wrap !! Are they New like listed or are they used? who knows? All I know is THEY DO NOT come from the factory like this. When I opened it the case was cracked movie and paperwork looked ok. Not worth the drive to town ( 1 hour round trip ) to return this to amazon but I guarantee you another Movie like this and I will purchase no more.

I'm not really sure what I can say about this movie. If you haven't seen it before, you're doing yourself a huge disservice. I believe it was released my sophomore year in high school and I probably watched it 20 times that year. I annoyed the he'll out of a lot of my friends, because any time a group of us were hanging at my house, if someone in the group hasn't seen it that's what we watched. So quite a few of my friends were forced to sit through more viewings than they cared to. I make no apologies, it's worth more than 1 viewing. This is 1 of those movies that you stop and watch every time you catch it while you're flipping through your channel guide, even though you own it in multiple formats already. It's 1 of those movies that if you haven't seen it in over a year or so you feel compelled to throw it in and watch. The story is fantastic. The soundtrack is perfect. Tom Hanks is unbelievable (can you possibly fathom, even for a brief instant, anyone else playing Gump)? The only negative thing that I can say about this movie is, as great as it was, it didn't deserve the best picture Academy Award it won. Only because competition was ridiculous that year and I believe without question that Pulp Fiction should have won. But I won't get into that argument.
I'm not going to give a book report for you guys and go into details about the plot, not only do I personally hate reviews that do that, but in this case I find it hard to believe that anyone reading this isn't already familiar with the plot. But I will say the blu ray transfer is fantastic. Now I'm no expert on picture quality, so there could be some fine details that the videophiles are always talking about that I don't notice. But just using the "eye test" I didn't regret my purchase in the least. I had just bought the samsung js8500 4k suhd tv before watching this, so I'm not comparing it directly with the same hardware I watched the dvd on, but I think that watching on a superior tv would reveal more flaws if they were there, and I didn't notice any. The sound transfer also sounded great, albeit not on the greatest sound system. I'm using the vizio 5.1 wireless soundbar setup.
If you haven seen this movie yet and you're older than 16, then you have no excuse and I really don't know what to say to you. If you're just wondering if this transfer is worth your money, I'd have to answer with a resounding yes. Hope this helps.

Review of the Blu Ray (we know the movie is great)

This was a long awaited upgrade from my old dvd purchased in the 90’s! Even the 4K version is out now, but I purchased this 25th anniversary digitally remastered edition on blu ray for £8 & it was always going to be a nice upgrade all the way around, the picture is clear in 1080p & it sounds great too in 5.1 surround. My only gripe on the title menu screen is that it could be clearer when switching between options as the font is black and the shading around the words is brown, so it’s not obvious what you are navigating towards.
The Extras though are great, loads of new stuff added in including a great & recent cast Q&A up on a stage at a university which is 50mins long, all the extras exceed 3 hours, so you get your moneys worth there for sure! There are two separate movie commentaries to listen to (I listened to both) & both offer a different viewpoints, thoughts & insights on the movie along the way. So all I can say is that I recommend this blu ray edition. An all time classic & great package for the price.

Meeting Elvis, President Johnson, John Lennon, creating bumper sticker slogans, serving in Vietnam, investing in Apple are all key points and the plot cleverly allows Forrest to be in the right place at the right time, his fortunes growing as a result of this.
If you haven't seen it - you really should. Life is indeed like a box of chocolates and this one is all your favourites wrapped up together.

Tom Hanks performs wonders in this film. As a simple minded fellow from the deep south, USA who is called up for military service. His growing up years were spent wearing leg irons to support his very weak legs. He is constantly bullied and his only real friend is a girl called Jenny. The exploits that Forrest gets into are hilarious. When he is demobbed, he gets to meet the President and starts an enterprise as a shrimp boat captain. The tender hearted viewer will often shed tears of both joy and sadness during this quite fantastic film. 5***** and Highly recommended.

This film is a classic. The changing circumstances throughout Forrest's life make the long running time fly by. Tom Hanks does a brilliant job as Forrest and creates a character who you can really believe in and root for. If you haven't already seen this film then I highly recommend it.

Imagine, someone not having this great iconic film! We have not heard from her since, so, I expect she is continuously watching it; either that or she is trying to form the words that express her amazement at the depth of this fantastic tale.
