Weird energy is going down, and demon-killing Damali is not at all herself in Banks's seventh Vampire Huntress Legend (after The Damned). Soon after Damali walks out on her soul mate, ex-vampire Carlos Rivera, she meets a mysterious stranger who frightens"and tempts"her more than anyone or anything has before. Is he from the Light or from hell? Something is seriously wrong in the universe, and the forces of evil may be getting the upper hand. Banks lays a lot of wisdom on the line about male-female relationships, along with more of her complex cosmology that samples various religions, folklore and a wide array of myth. But it's the characters and their passions coupled with the author's wild imagination that drive the narrative. The story has gotten so complicated it may be difficult for a newcomer to fathom, but readers already enthralled with this sizzling series can look forward to major plot payoffs. (July)

The 7th book in this series is all about Choices and the Consequences of these choices. With the chairman being gone, as of book 6, you would think that things would get easier for the Guardian team. However, there is a new threat to the team that will test the boundaries of love for the two Neterus (Carlos and Damali). Will their love survive? Also, last time we left our Mother-seer, Marlene, she was in a love triangle with Kamal and Shabazz. Who will she choose? Has Rider finally accepted the fact that Tara is with someone else? Also, has Tara finally moved on? Dan was still upset that the Krissy is not in love with him. Will he finally find love? I wish I could tell you, but I can't spoil it for you. To find these things out and more, you'll have to read the book.
If you love the characters in these books like I do, then this book will make you angry, laugh, and cry. This book has all the elements of a good read: Drama, and Suspense. I stayed up til 3 a.m. two nights in a row, because I just could not put this book down. If you haven't read any books in this series and read this book, it will make you go out and buy the first 6 books and break your neck trying to read to catch up to the current book.
Also, at the end of this book is a preview to book 8 that will make you scream! I'm sorry, I can't tell you about it, you just have to buy the book. I promise you, this installment is not one to be missed!
Maybe the author was having man trouble, I don't know. It was just very noticeable as a man bashing episode on a massive scale. I guess being female, she's going to be biased toward her female characters. The redeemer is Carlos gets fixed and the book goes on to have an awesome ending. The preview at the end of the book for "The Wicked" tells you the next book is gonna rock the house. If you have been along for all the rides in the previous books, like me, you'll also be biting your nails waiting till February and the next book is releases.
New characters are introduced and Cain (Eve and the Councilman's son), "an" original neteru who has a history and agenda of his own (he even lived in the Garden of Eden before killing his brother)is trying to seduce Damalia. She is his muse and appears to appreciate all the things that Carlos takes for granted...her music. He knows how to capture her heart and be the man that Carlos is afraid to be. However, Cain can not seem to make a good choice to save his life. We are introduced to a beautiful dragon who gives her life to open Damalia's eyes to the fact that "the grass is not always greener", and that life is about choices. New companions are introduced to the lonely guardians. The Guardians have to make some difficult choices....Marlene, Gabby, Tara, Kamal, Juanita and JL...all have long reaching consequences. The Guaradian Group is growing and their powers are evolving. Alliances are being formed and choices are being made that could effect the end of mankind.
The novel, while injecting Vampirism and brillant battle scenes, really deals with everyday issues about trust, choices and relationships. If you haven't read the series, now is your opportunity to jump on board and do so.
While stuck, I did try some of her other novels and have now read all of the shifter/werewolf books. I enjoyed them a lot and hope a new of them is forth coming soon!.
Yesterday, I picked up 'The Forsaken' yet again. I have now finsihed over half of it and am about to put it down for the 5th time. The Cain bit is just a bit much after all of the 'explanations' of the Biblical stories in the previuous books. We'll see, I might find myself reading more of it, but, for now, I'm finished with it.
