This is the first book I have read about defense industry of China. Therefore I am not in a position to determine the exact value of the book among the literature about Chinese defense industry.
As an inexperienced reader about China, I found the book easy to read and easy to understand. It is certainly an academic work. References are provided as footnotes throughout the book. Most of these references are Chinese books, magazine articles or newspaper articles, which would be unknown for a non-Chinese reader like me. Thus this content alone makes the book a valuable source of information. Other references are about the general development of the defense industry throughout the World. Somehow the book also provides a bibliography for the interested reader.
The book is well balanced - contents of the book will be interesting from both economical and technology management point of views.
In conclusion, I recommend the book for the interested readers.
