Overall the story was fine, and parts of it where top notch. However large sections needed significant polishing. Places where we are getting into a character's real dilemma, and then the dreaded words "several weeks later". Um, Why did you start building tension if you where just going to abandon it? After the 9th or 10th time it became hard to take the story seriously. Additionally several times I found myself jared out of the story by having 21th century viewpoints shoehorned into a 19th century characters. I can get over the fact that all the girls sleep around with no concern over there reputation, I can deal with the fact that all the players are rich, smart and in just the right place at the right time, I can work with the fact that suddenly the key goal for the french resistance is to save their lives, not to deal with the in country Nazi's, I can deal with the sudden appearance of "cousins" who are skilled at personnel protection protocol's who we have never heard about before, and I can deal with them being willing to die as random spear carriers to advance the plot, I can even deal with the fact that they just happen be able to fly over hostile countries in aircraft just randomly requisitioned from the military without anyone noticing or killing them, and without running out of gas. What I find hard to accept is that at no point did they consider playing hardball with the people trying to kill them. I mean if all you have to do is send one telegram and everyone trying to kill you and your friends would be rounded up and shot and you get to keep all the money, why are we all running and hiding?
So overall an OK story, characters that at times are interesting, and a story that would be a great Hollywood screenplay, but which needs work as a book.
