My first teenage collection of adult magazines consisted of a couple of used Penthouse issues I begged my uncle to buy me from a seedy antique shop. I devoured the Forum letters for the voyeuristic excitement, and over time I learned some of the tropes of these lurid tales. "Forum Rejects" turned those tropes on their head and made me laugh out loud more than once.

For whatever odd reason, the author decided to write weird letters to "Penthouse" magazine that weren't quite the published norm. At first his submissions would fit right into the column's standard format, but as they went on things got...strange. I'm not sure how much of them I can quote, so suffice to say that the "Sam the Butcher" account is alone worth the price of admission.

Of course, like the dubious stories they parody, the ones in this collection becomes somewhat repetitive, and as a whole the book is quite, ah, short. But if you've ever ogled any of the Forum letters (especially vintage ones from the 80s), then "Forum Rejects" is a fun trip through a lecherous memory lane.

This collection of mock men's magazine letters is hilarious. Nardone takes a different approach in each of them. My favourite is "Louise at the Circus" which uses some very imaginatively unerotic analogies for parts of the female anatomy. From gross outs to puns to humiliating experiences, these letters mine every seam of comedy gold.

I thought I would review the review. The self referential aspect of it brought to mind crop circles of the id. Should such a thing exist? Or would it be too dangerous? The secret may lie in the rejected letters to Penthouse, the letters you want to read.

The humor was lost after the first story. Don't waste your money on this. I do appreciate the initial humor but it's hard to carry that throughout the whole book.
