If you're going to play on PC, wait a few months for them to finish patching the game. If you have one of the other recent Forza titles (Horizon 3, Motorsport 6) you could probably skip this one. The last racing game I played was Forza Motorsport 3, so for me there's still a lot of new things to do in this game, but I can't say how much of an improvement (or possibly downgrade) it is from the newer titles.
I bought the deluxe edition after Turn 10 announced they would be reverting the VIP system to the way it was in previous games, but I feel like I paid for an unfinished game. This will be a good game when the developer can actually make it run properly on PC, but as of now it still crashes randomly every 2 or 3 hours. Most of the crashes for me have been in random parts of the menus but yesterday it crashed during a race for the first time.
When it works the game is fun. The tracks and cars are beautiful and the driving physics seem pretty good (although I haven't played a racing game since Forza Motorsport 3). I like the huge car selection too, but I wish the game was less restrictive about when you can use each one. The class divisions give you an incentive to try a wider variety of cars, which is nice, but there don't seem to be any race series in the career mode that are just based on overall performance score. If you want to take a classic 80's or 90's Japanese sports car and upgrade it so it can challenge a modern high-end BMW you have to flip through a lot of custom game settings. Doable, but it's a little tedious. The homologation rules that go with each car division are also a little too forced. Whenever you get a new car you have to get the game's pre-selected homologation upgrades with it. You can still customize whatever parts you want within the division rules but being forced to buy certain parts with a new car makes most of the cars more expensive upfront than they should be.
The prize crates are a little sketchy because they're obviously gearing up to add microtransactions -- you don't get bonus credits just for reducing driving assists anymore, you have to use the mod cards from the crates for the credit boosts -- but for now they're easy enough to ignore. Crates and individual cars can still be bought with in-game credits, and credit rewards for racing are still enough that doing so doesn't seem like it would be a super-tedious grind. You still get extra credits for turning up the AI driver difficulty and race length.
Overall, it seems like Turn 10 wanted to make this game better than it is, but the Microsoft corporate overlords started meddling with it and rushed the game out the door before it was ready.
Also, there is no way on Amazon to get your money back it appears.
