I have a small basement which is quite cluttered at the moment. So, instead of a surround sound system, for now I use an Apple iPod Hi-Fi. I had been using an 1/8" - 1/8" wired cable carrying the signal from an Apple TV to the iPod Hi-Fi, for the audio portion of Netflix movies. I finally decided to see....errrr, hear if a fiber optic cable would make a difference. To my very pleasant surprise, it did. Though still stereo sound and still using the iPod Hi-Fi, the audio is better; crisp, with a wider range of discernible frequencies. Quite noticeable are the subtle sounds of movies I had not heard before. Also, the bass sounds cleaner. Though not surround sound, the optical cable has made the movie experience appreciably better. Any moderately well constructed optical cable would do that, because it is a digital signal. This cable, in my opinion, is quite well constructed; sturdy. I would recommend, and buy again. Price is agreeable.

These are nice cables but I bought them for use with my Google Chromecast Audio devices and they don't work right.

If you plug the cable in all the way you will not get sound, but if you unplug the cable just a hair (from either end) it will work. Don't know why. It's the same with different cables (I bought more than one) and different Chromecasts and receivers.

Works fine. I use it to get the digital signal from my Macbook Pro's headphone jack into my external DAC. Yes, the headphone jack; Apple's computers contain a TOSlink port inside that same opening. The cable seems well-constructed.

File this in the "What else does everybody know?" category. Ever needed to connect a Mac laptop to an audio amplifier? If you're unenlightened like I was, you probably used an adapter with 1/4" headphone-to-stereo RCA plugs, right? Then I accidentally learned there's a fiber-optic TOSLINK port tucked inside the headphone receptacle on most Mac laptops less than 5 years old. So if your audio amp has the conventional rectangular-ish TOSLINK digital audio input port as well as the red/white analog stereo input receptacles you've been using, this FosPower cable will transmit pure digital audio (stereo, even 5.1) straight from your Mac into your amp and you'll be amazed by the improvement in sound quality. The cable is high-quality -- rugged but soft and pliable. The connectors are equally rugged and come with protective plastic caps which are important when the cable isn't being used -- scratches in the plastic lens tip can ruin the cable. I could wish the plastic caps were on a lanyard attached to the cable, but for the very reasonable cable price, I'll settle for scotch taping them onto the cable so I don't lose them.

Excellent quality, appearance and feel. Just what I looked for everywhere and Fospower was the only one I could find in the length that I wanted. I bought this cable to use with my just purchased Chromecast Audio and it works fantastic ! Awesome high tech looking cables give your home theater a nice new look.

High quality cable. Has a thick durable feel to it. I purchased 2 of these cables at different times, they both were exactly the same build quality. They both worked perfectly. I use them for chrome cast audio devices. Never had a single problem, would recommend all day.

Works great for what I was using it for. I bought this to work with my Astro a40 mix amp since my cable had broke so instead of buying it from astro for $15-$30 i went with this and it works oerfectly

First Rate quality cable with very well made gold plated ends. Both ends made very solid connections. There's nothing like listening to true 5.1 digital music.
Update One: after connecting the S/PDIF end to the splitter, I ran the cable being TV, under the carpet and to where all my cables meet by my chair. I had ample cable left to plug into my digital port on my headphones. If I held perfectly still, my connection was great. That said, who does that? Reaching for my water, etc, the connection kept breaking up. Even with the pin end mounted in rubber and clicking into the headphone port, it still allowed for a poor connection. It's too bad really because listening to digital music is incredible, to say the least. All I can think of to improve this situation would be to make the connecting point a twist and lock setup on the headphones with a matching male end on the cable. A solid, secure connection is imminent. I know Amazon hates it but I have no use for cable that won't lock solidly onto the headphones. Nuts...
