The Foscam FHC994 is a 720p Mini Video DVR Security Camcorder. The FHC994 features a Vibration Detection mode, which uses accelerometers to automatically trigger video recording when the device feels even the slightest movement. This has countless applications, including vehicle security and recording evidence of vandalism. A standard motion-detection mode also makes it a fantastic budget option for home or business security. Both of these modes help ensure you only capture the important footage, saving valuable time and memory. When a nearby power outlet isn't an option, the standalone recorder can run off of it's built in battery for up to 8 hours of continuous recording! The FHC994 also includes a configuration tool for both Windows and Mac OS, and allows you to schedule recordings easily. The 160 Degree viewing angle and 720p video quality make the FHC994 an amazingly versatile security camcorder for a variety of needs. This unit comes with a 4GB micro SD card. Note: this is not an IP Camera, it is a standalone camera and recorder.
Top customer reviews
Video on factory setting is good but the same video on customer setting is so poor as to be unusable. You would think the settings are the same. Both state 1280 x 720 but they are NOT the same. Herky-jerky motion on custom setting is very, very poor but that custom setting is needed to trigger motion. Factory setting has better video BUT will not trigger when motion detected. You are stuck with either poor video of no guarantee that the video will record.
Firmware will not update. The FOSCAM website is a joke regarding support.
I would NOT purchase this DVR again nor recommend it for purchase.
Tried different cable and it now works. The video still looks like crap, very pink.
I had to download the widget from the website to set up my camera with the settings I needed and this was easy enough to do. The instructions are in English and are very helpful. The instructions say when the unit is set on vibration mode the battery can last up to 4 months. I checked mine after 2 weeks and the battery was still charged and after recording several clips per day the card had not filled. This unit definitely met my needs!
I emailed what I thought was Foscam tech support, only to find out that the same US based guy that answered sales questions was also answering tech support questions. He told me to upgrade the software on the newest units, the ones where the audio doesn't work. There is no firmware upgrade for those units. I emailed this information back and he told me to email Foscam Tech Support. I thought I was talking to Foscam Tech Support!
I emailed Foscam Tech Support, again, and got copied on an email from what I assume as a China based manager asking his "team" to help on the problem. Then I got an email from the same US based sales/tech support guy telling me to upgrade the units. I replied to him that we were in a circular problem solving nightmare and if they didn't respond soon I would write this poor review. Now, 3 weeks later, no response from Foscam, I am writing a poor review.
Bottom line: incredibly poor tech support on a product that has some promise. They need to get their act together!!
