This is my third Foscam brand IP camera in the past three years. The video speed mostly depends on your wireless router bandwidth and signal strength. I use mine simply to have a snapshot recorded on a motion event (via third party software).

On this camera, the focus is sharp and can be adjusted. The focus on 'IR only' is a little soft, with 'IR only', in pitch black, you can get about 10 feet of coverage. By varying the brightness and contrast settings, that will change. Also, any external light source (example: outdoor, night, with a nearby street lamp) will greatly increase the IR coverage. The lens angle is wide, meaning, you will be able to see a wide area with the sacrifice of resolution. Example: A car pulls into your drive, you may not be able to detect the license plate number of the car but you will be able to recognize the car type and peoples faces.

This camera can also monitor audio. The audio is not perfect, you will generally hear a little 'buzz' that occurs at the current frame rate of your camera. I did not use the 'transmit audio' function.

Foscam does have a support forum which is good.. Their technical people seem to respond with helpful advice.

To be honest, I did not use the 9dbi antenna with the camera. My package arrived with the normal antenna that is about 4 inches long, and the 9dbi antenna that is about 14 inches long (big antenna!). I did use the 9dbi on a WLAN computer in my house. The signal strength indicator went from 63% (with a stock 5dbi antenna) to 89% with this 9dbi antenna. The antenna works.

For the price this camera is a bargain. It is not perfect but the pan & tilt control adds a lot of value.

    :)

I got this camera set up in about four hours including registering a dynamic DNS record. I must admit that I spend some of that time modifying my wireless router and my VoIP configuration first. It was moderately tough to setup especially if the steps do not happen like the Instruction Booklet. I ran into problem with the default port. Later, I realize that it needs to be change to another port number if you want to configure it in the router. The picture quality is fair(6/10), features(8/10), & setup(6/10). Be sure to follow the configuration sequences as described in the Instruction Booklet. I have used an AXIS PTZ camera before, where it has a picture quality of 9/10.

My camera is about 30-40 feet from my wireless router. It does NOT need the 9dbi antenna. It was also unnecessary to buy additional camera mount as the website so conveniently suggested.

Took some time for me to get this working with our 2wire 3800 router, but once I did, the wife was pleased. Is there any better way to describe a transaction. The wife can make or break how one feels about a purchase. If it works for garbage, then it is a stupid, impulse purchase.
However, she can now see the baby (with another on the way in a couple of weeks) room from her Bionic, or our desktop PC. Both work great.
Colors are not this unit's strong point, but it does pan and tilt...would have liked zoom, but not needed.
Sound is sorta sketchy on the droid, as I have not tested the sound on the desktop PC due to no speakers at the time that I set this up.
2+ walls between the baby room and our router and signal is fine. Never tried the standard antenna...

Would I purchase another? Yes, and probably will as well. It went over that well!

This camera works as described. I have a D-Link DIR-655 Xtreme N Gigabit Router. I connected the camera with the supplied ethernet cable and went thru the setup steps from the quick start guide, the camera connected without an issue. The night vision of the camera is better than I expected and daytime is crystal clear up to about 30 feet. I installed my camera, with the long antenna, in my garage which is about 70 feet from my router, the camera connected wirelessly without a hiccup. I use the Blue Iris software to monitor and record and again the Blue Iris software found and connected with the camera without a problem. All my laptops are running windows7, connecting with the browser was again seemless. However, I was not able to connect to the camera with a smart phone, maybe I need an App. I would highly recommend this camera as it has exceeded my expectations.

I love the camera, the infrared works great. It pans/tilts almost 360 degrees (can't quite look directly behind itself). I have the camera hung upside down from a vent in my dorm because I do not trust my roomates with my expensive A/V equipment. I can keep an eye on it while I am out of town for the weekend. I had a lot of trouble setting the camera up (my own fault) after about 20 minutes on the phone with Christiana at Foscam she was able to remotely do everything for me to get it working and even typed up a very easy login information sheet for me.

I gave it a 4/5 because the Foscam app for the iphone will not save the set position for the camera to be in (presets, you can still manually turn with the joystick in the app) and it will not turn on and off the IR.

I am not sure how to get this thing working using the actual camera for recording but I paired it up with this program i found called vitamin D video and it works great. records to a folder works for free with one camera etc. just do a static IP open up the port on ur router to go to that ip with the correct port (8090 or whatever port you want really). then BAM it works with the iphone web browser or one of the millions of other free camera apps on iphones/androids.

if you aint geeky enough i would probably stay from this.

    hope this helps.
