Product Description

The Foscam FI9805P is one of Foscam's latest "Plug & Play" cameras featuring the ability to connect via smartphone by simply scanning the QR code on the underside of the camera. Bypassing the need to access your router and setup port forwarding, the FI9805P can be set up effortlessly by anyone, even those with very little IT experience.

The FI9805P adopts 960p HD video quality (1280 x 960) as well as a high performance media processor, single SOC chip (built-in ARM+DSP) and high speed video protocol processor. As a result, it is capable of H.264 video compression allowing for extremely smooth video transmission with minimal bandwidth consumption. In addition, due to the small file sizes produced by H.264 video compression it has the ability to save tremendous hard drive space when doing manual video recording.

The Foscam FI9805P features 960p HD quality video, H.264 video compression, Wireless-N capability, remote internet viewing, motion detection, and night vision. In addition, it is smartphone compatible (Iphone, Android & Blackberry) as well as viewable over the internet using a compatible app. The camera functions well as part of a home or office security system with remote internet monitoring ability. With 60 second easy setup with QR code scan via Smartphone and the option of live viewing and storage via FoscamCloud (free trial included), this is one of the best values available for an outdoor surveillance camera purchase.

Awful Software (if it works at all), poor support, HUGE physical camera, and NO Mac / Linux support from Foscam.

Awful Software (if it works at all), poor support, HUGE physical camera, and NO Mac / Linux support from Foscam.
Pros:1. Produces decent images during daylight hours.2. Reason price for image quality and wireless.Cons:1. Be prepared for next to zero support. Their software is dated and their instructions not in sync with their software which is even more dated than their instructions. They also do not develop their own software and are reliant on third party software (some of which is no longer developed or supported) to even setup the camera.2) If you are a Mac user, I am quoting Foscam Support: "I suggest that you switch to Windows operating system and then you will be able to use firefox or chrome."3) This camera in the housing is almost the size of a 2 liter bottle of Coke / Pepsi (see image) and heavy. It is much bigger than I thought it was going to be and comes with a generic mount that barely holds its weight.4) The cables / power supply for it is a generic indoor style a/c block adapter AND the cable coming out of the camera has a bunch of other connectors. So even though it is an outdoor weather proofed camera you are going to have to get some weatherproof power extensions and some sort of protective box to plug the camera into power. The power supply cable comes out the side of the power supply too so will not work with traditional weather proofing covers for outlets either (or yet another extension)5) Poor browser support: The software included with the camera is only for Windows and will NOT support full 64-bit browser mode. The camera's login page checks for a browser plugin that is only recognized on 32-bit Windows. You can get a third party plug-in (not developed for or supported by Foscam).6) For Mac, Safari only and it has issues. It is not available for Chrome, Firefox, Opera or anything else. The Safari browser plug-in (or the camera software) itself has a few issues itself so I was not able to configure all of the settings like remote out of my home network viewing as it kept loosing or not saving the settings or would imply it saved them and reboot and then not be there.7) The Foscam iOS app will not setup this camera, nor will any third party one and it does not have the QR-code setup function some other cameras have.8) You need to be able to remote into the camera via a browser to set it up. The login page downloads a 3rd party Windows executable to your PC even on a Mac or in Linux. It will not take you to a compatible plug-in and the ones mentioned and screen shotted on their site and in documentation either are no longer supported, compatible, or even available.Again quoting support: "doesn't work because of limitations of plug-in for cameras."9) Once you get it mostly setup a variety of IPcam programs (free and purchased) I tried in other browsers (even IPCam wouldn't work) as well as iOS would not work with this camera running the latest firmware due to incompatibilities with usernames / passwords, image size, or the camera simply would not respond, say it is communicating but not return images, or it would crash the app when I connected to this particular camera.10) Dusk hours where the camera is in and or looking at something in shadow but other areas are bright the darker areas, the darker areas are basically too dark to see detail even right in front of the camera and if you turn on the IR function. So basically it has poor exposure control to lock in and adjust the exposure appropriately for these mixed lighting conditions. After multiple email exchanges with support I gave up on this camera (and Foscam) that never got it completely working and decided to identify a higher quality, better supported camera. I think if they had better software alone I would have been willing to work through the cable issues and size, but the ridiculously bad software and no support had it going back in the box and returned.

If you already purchase this CAM, relax, you made the right choice, if not, read before you buy:

-The picture quality is great, HD as described day and night.

-The color quality is perfect day time, see attached image.

-The night vision is perfect, with 36 IR lights , it will get you over 70 feet for sure, see attached image.

-The interface is in English and stable, tested on windows 7 and 10.

-The wireless range is not bad at all, it's true 802.11 bgn, means you get 54 Mbps as maximum which is more than enough.

Well, the above spec / features all looks good while others may had hard times to get it to work, how did I do it?, here is how:

-A good home wireless router, any good brand with 3x3 802.11 abgn will do, see attached image ( cisco linksys EA 4500).

-A good wireless plan, what does that mean? it means you setup a separate SSID for the CAM only and dedicate a static channel for that SSID after you scan your wireless environment with a good RF scanner, like the wireless scanner app from the google play ( works on Blackberry and Androids), see attached image.

-Setup a network shared folder, which you can access remotely , then point the storage path for your videos and snap-shots from the CAM interface or the desktop client to that folder.
-Because of the good recording compression rate, a 20 GB of storage will give you a month worth of motion detected videos.

-It's an outdoor CAM, so it will normally sit behind a wall or a metal door which will affect your wireless signal, how to deal with this? get a 2.4 GHz 11 dBi Omni Antenna , and fish the wire out to the CAM, the Omni Antenna should be inside, be aware the Antenna cable connector is very rare which is SMA male, see attached image.

-My wireless router is in the first floor away from the camera, I used same brand wireless range extender and got the signal almost perfect for the CAM, see attached image.

-On the storage hosting PC / machine, I used a free PING server ( like the emco ping monitor ) to measure the quality of the connection, after all above, I got around %99-%100 stable connectivity and availability, see attached image.

-The smart phone app is stable and you can get it for free from the Blackberry world or the android google play, you can view the live CAM remotely and locally , you can take snap-shots and record video on your phone as well, see attached image.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Wireless IP Outdoor Cam

Best wireless outdoor ip cam on the market. Image is stunning and detail is fabulous due to the 960P resolution. The IR LEDs are powerful and the night vision is spectacular. In fact you can use it with the IR LEDs off and still get a great picture if there is sufficient light at night by using an outdoor light. Easy to set up and there are no connection issues. Video transmission is stable and transmits without flaws with wireless N. I'm considering buying another exact model.

    5.0 out of 5 stars A me è piaciuta
Reviewed in Italy on February 3, 2015
A me è piaciuta molto questa telecamera.

    A me è piaciuta

A me è piaciuta molto questa telecamera.
