The FI9821W adopts a high performance media processor and high speed video protocol processor making it capable of H.264 video compression for extremely smooth high definition video transmission, increased FPS and minimal bandwidth consumption. In addition, due to the small file sizes produced by H.264 video compression it has the ability to save tremendous hard drive space when doing video recording. Furthermore, the FI9821W also features a built-in DVR via on-board SD Card slot for direct recording on the camera itself upto 32GB. The FI9821W features HD 1280x720p video, two-way audio, h.264 video compression, built-in SD card slot, wifi-N capability, pan/tilt, remote internet viewing, motion detection, night-vision as well as a built in network video recording system. In addition, it is smartphone compatible (Iphone, Android & Blackberry) as well as viewable over the internet network using the standard Safari browser (no app necessary). The camera functions well as an Iphone baby monitor or as part of a home or office security system with remote internet monitoring ability. The FI9821W improves on the FI9820W in the following respects: -Improved low light & night vision performance -Wider viewing angle by 20° (even wider than FI8910W) -Updated web interface with all features and options included in the FI8910W -Enhanced MAC as well as Safari/Chrome/Firefox compatibility -Multidevice viewing compatible with FI8910W and all other Foscam MJPEG cameras -Free bounded DDNS service via MyFoscam.org -Improved audio and reduced static on microphone

I installed the latest firmware that was supposed to fix the security vulnerabilities. After install, it can no longer connect to WiFi connections... Seriously?
Foscam has put this camera out without thorough testing. How could you release a camera that can be logged into without a password? Then - how do you release a patch to that bug that breaks the WiFi capabilities?! On a positive note, the non-hd version of this camera is working well. I will be ordering that one and hopefully forgetting about this experience.
We purchased this camera to mount in a nursery and use as a baby cam. We didn't want one of those over-priced baby video monitors with its own screen as we have some iPhones and iPads in the house and their screens would work just fine. This is a much more economical (and higher quality) solution than most baby video monitors. Installation and configuration (including DDNS) was fairly easy. Daytime video quality was very good and IR video quality was good and quite bright. This camera worked well for about 9 months or so.
Firstly the back of the unit has the typical led lights to indicate that there is power and that the ethernet is receiving a signal. These cannot be turned off and they add a red glow in the room which can bother a baby. We had to resort to the low tech solution of black electrical tape. It would be much better to have a setting to force them off.
Secondly after about 9 months or so the signal would intermittently cut out. Typically it would come back after a few seconds/minutes but occasionally the camera would have to be completely restarted (i.e. powered off and on) which in our case wasn't easy as the power is in the attic and the camera is ceiling mounted. To solve this I decided to see if there was a newer firmware version that could be applied. There was, although you have to sign up to receive Foscam marketing in order to receive the download links! and there doesn't seem to be an easy way of unsubscribing from these mails. I downloaded it, followed the instructions, got the "completed successfully" message and waited for the camera to restart. It never did. After 30 minutes on the line with tech support it was determined that the camera was "bricked" by the firmware. I was then advised to call customer service to get an RMA to have the unit replaced.
So...the box says "1 Year Warranty" and the camera was made non-functioning by the Foscam software itself. It took 2 days (and several calls to get an RMA form sent to me. I was then informed that I was expected to pay the shipping back to them and if I didn't want to, they would not replace the camera (as they were "doing me a favor"). So against my nature of not being treated unfairly, I shipped it back. It then took over 1 week to get a response. I placed several calls to get an update. Their RMA department (which I suspect is 1 or 2 people) were never available and customer service could not find my RMA number and simply said, someone will email you. No one ever did. Eventually I received an automated email that the camera was received and that I would have to PAY $7 shipping for a new camera to be sent to me. So, now I have to camera and I'm only given the option of paying them more to get a problem that their software created, fixed! I paid the $7 waited several more days, made several more fruitless phone calls to get an update and while I was on one of these calls...UPS showed up with the replacement. The good news is that it works fine.
So, is the product any good? Yes. Would I ever give this company a single penny again? NEVER in a million years.
The bar for Customer Service in 2014 has really been set by companies such as Amazon, Apple and some much smaller companies (e.g. Campsaver). Foscam's customer service doesn't even know or care that a bar exists. PLEASE STAY AWAY

Foscam Customer Service
I originally purchased this camera to keep an eye on our puppy, then I bought more to keep an eye on our home. As other reviews here and elsewhere can attest, they are a bit more complicated than others on the market to setup. A little knowledge of your computers network, router, and IP addresses definitely helps. However, I've heard their support is top notch! I work in IT, so I didn't have any issues getting these up and running, and the later products that I purchased had QR codes on them for even easier installation. The one thing I am most impressed with is the fact that I've had multiple power outages, or even unplugged and moved one of the indoor cameras into another room, and every single time, I plugged it back in, or the power came back on in the instance of an outage, everything went back to working, no issue! I think that is the most impressive thing. No re configuring, no messing with settings, nothing. It just works!
