Update (2017): This remote inexplicably stopped working consistently. It would work for several shots, then no response. Removing/reattaching sometimes helped, but again for only a few shots. As a result, I'm reducing my original rating from 4 to 2 stars.
D810 + 400mm AF-I f/2.8 + TC20E III + Tripod + >this product< = a rock solid image.
NOTE: Read directions carefully if you've never used a wired remote before - take a few practice shots and try out the features before going all in
The cord is a little short. That works for me, I'm not using it to remotely take a picture that I'm in. I bought this specifically for long exposures, and if you really wanted to you could probably get an extension ten pin cord. I use it with my Nikon D800 and the only drawback is Nikon kind of crammed the ten pin port in a small space, so you have to get a little gentle with it but it still only took me a few seconds to get on the camera and test it out.
As I said, this is a simple remote, and I like simple. I could have bought any of the higher-cost remotes with all their different functions, but if you just need something for long exposure or are even just starting out in photography and don't know a lot, this remote is perfect. Great cost, it got here quickly, and is very comfortable to hold. I will be buying more to have spares on hand just in case. The wonderful thing about this being so inexpensive is that if you buy another camera, and it doesn't take a 10 pin cord, you can buy an alternate version of this same remote for a similar low cost. And that's a huge plus in a market where the technology is upgraded every year.
~ Not sure what happened but I never got my new one. I'm going to say user error regarding that, because I think I was suppose to print the label...oops. Also, I have to change the rating from 2 to 4, because it is a handy inexpensive device. The error I think I was making was sliding the hold up causing it to stick, not really sure yet but I'll use it again. Overall, I do like the shutter release! Try it, you might like it!!
