The Fotodiox Pro LED Studio-in-a-Box is a compact tabletop photography environment. The carrying case unfolds into a square light tent that contains and bounces the light, and comes with four backdrop color choices (blue, white, gray and black). The Studio-in-a-Box kit comes with integrated dimmable LED lights in the top panel with a removable diffusion panel to soften the light for easy use and minimal fuss. When the photographer is finished, the studio folds nicely up to form a carrying case to hold all attachments and accessories.
Without the hassle of setting up light stands and plugging in multiple lights, the LED Studio-in-a-Box is ready to go, right out of the box, with minimal assembly required. Creating evenly-lit product shots is now as easy as unfolding the case and installing the backdrop. The backdrops are made of a durable vinyl, so ironing out wrinkles from a cloth background will be a thing of the past.
Instead of using diffusion on the sides of the box, the LED Studio-in-a-Box, utilizes reflective side panels that not only prevent light from escaping the box, but also helps to keep the light balanced and diffused. The LED Studio-in-a-Box takes an easy lighting setup, and makes it even easier, combining what could take multiples lights, stands, and cords into a simpler, more compact setup.
The LED Studio-in-a-Box opens up new possibilities, with a shoot-through hatch on the top panel of the box, allowing for new, unconventional angles for photographs. An optional front panel (with another shoot-through hatch) can also be folded up to prevent glare bouncing from the reflective side panels.

I also discovered a photo app called Smart Shooter that simplifies the photographic end of the business. I set my Nikon D90 on a tripod. Run a USB cable to the computer. From there, all the camera controls get handled on my 27” iMac. I can control Aperture, Shutter speed, ISO, Focus, and Shutter release. After the shot's taken, the images get uploaded straight to my computer. It’s so simple!
This setup is a going to be a total game changer for our business. The Fotodiox Pro along with photo-tethering software makes it easy to control every aspect of the photo shoot. The results have blown me away. Thank you for a wonderful product!
The velcro setup can be a bit tricky the first time or 2, but is very simple. No frame to setup. The openings are well made, the lights are setup very well.
If I only had one complaint, its that there is no good way to store the backgrounds in the folded up unit. So, I keep it all in the original box, which is looking a bit tattered now.
I recommend this one to everyone. 28" is really ideal to capture a few angles and most product shots.
This is a little cumbersome to install the plastic sheets. They come folded in half and are stiff. There are 4 corners of double sided hook and loop that hold OK, but the plastic sheet "pops" out of the bottom back corner making the top pop off, and it is awkward to get everything back together. The sheets of plastic backdrop need additional hook and loop or something better to secure them properly.
The LED lights are in a square at the top. Although a vinyl fabric diffuser is included, it does not diminish the square reflection off of anything that is reflective. The picture of the plate was taken with the diffuser and I added bubble wrap to try to diffuse it even further. I would suggest the designers consider a better diffuser or change the layout of the lights.
For non reflective surfaces, the lighting is spectacular.
Love that it folds flat!
Nevertheless there are some design flaws that could be fixed for about $1 total, but Fotodiox, apparently, is too busy to listen to their customers: 1) The “diffusor” cloth is a joke. It’s does little to diffuse the light. The array of LEDs clearly shines through the thin clothe. For just a few pennies they could make it thicker or better yet, simply provide a few layers so that the user can choose what they want; 2) As reviewers have pointed out for years, the Velcro is not adequate to support the backdrops provided. It does not stay in place; 3) Fotodiox uses the identical electrical cords for all four size boxes (16” to 28”). The result is that the large dimmer assembly just hangs over the edge in the 28” box. This puts pressure on the main wire (likely to shorten the life of the made in China wiring) and the dimmer switch can’t easily be reached from the front panel (Photo attached). The cord needs to be longer.
It’s a shame that Fotodiox doesn’t make these simple changes.
