If you have a SLR or DSLR camera and other maker/mount lenses, the Fotodiox Mount Adapters allow you to use your lenses on the film/digital camera body. Sharing lenses has some distinct advantages. Certain prime lens just can't be replaced, and you save the cost of purchase on new lenses. Fotodiox offers a range of adapter from large format to smaller format digital adapters. Adapting larger format lens to smaller format sensors (i.e: large format to medium format, medium format to 35mm, 35mm to micro 4/3) provides excellent edge-to-edge sharpness. The smaller image field helps minimize the effects of lens distortion and aberration by using the 'sweet spot' or center of the larger lens image circle.
This Fotodiox Lens Mount Adapter, is made with high standard precision. Its all metal design and polished surface is designed to guarantee smooth mounting and long lasting experiences. It allows Minolta MD/MC/SR Rokkor Lenses to fit on a Sony Alpha NEX E-Mount system camera body.
Although the lens will fit physically, automatic diaphragm, auto-focusing, or any other functions will not operate correctly while using this adapter. In this case "stop-down mode" will need to be used when metering since the lens does not have the ability to have its aperture controlled by the camera body. You can shoot with manual mode or aperture priority mode. Infinity focusing is allowed.
Compatible Cameras (Including, but not limited to): Sony Alpha a7, a7r, NEX-3, NEX-5, NEX-C3, NEX-5N, NEX-7, NEX-F3, NEX-5R, NEX-6, NEX-VG10, NEX-VG20, NEX-VG30, NEX-VG900, NEX-FS100, NEX-FS700, NEX-EA50
Actual product packaging and contents may differ from image shown due to packaging or product updates by manufacturer.
NOTE: This adapter will NOT fit on the Sony a7S, a7 II, a7S II, and a7R II.

This being said, the tripod mount gets in the way of some of the apparatus on the lenses themselves — in one case disabling the aperture ring. It's for this one reason that the adapter isn't getting five stars. I tried to unscrew the tripod mount but I think the screws are painted in. So, buyer take note; if your old MD mount lenses have aperture levers and so on near the mount, this may be a problem.
With all that being as it is, though, this is an excellent adapter and I thoroughly recommend it for breathing life into your old glass. I've had some *excellent* results with MD mount lenses on the NEX-5 and I hope you do too. ****
Rather than return it, I simply disassembled the adapter and took out the button so the release pin could extend all the way down into the notch on the lens. Now the lens locks in fine. I just use a ball point pen to push the pin down to release. However, I don't see a need to take the lens off the adaptor. I may get a couple more at this price and just leave them on the lenses. I bet if I ordered it again, I would get one with the "correct" button, but who knows?
In terms of operation, it works fine. Seems to keep the correct focal length at 50mm (75mm equivalent) when compared to my orignal 16-50 kit zoom.
Notes: autofocus is not available
Setup your NEX-x for
[MENU] -> [Setup] -> [Relase w/o Lens] ->[Enable]
[MENU] -> [Setup] -> [Peaking Level] -> [High] *my preference - easier to see highlights
[MENU] -> [Setup] -> [Peaking Color] -> [Red] *can choose white, yellow, or red - just pick the one with the most contrast for the shot
Auto Apeture is not available, so keep in mind when picking your mode and shooting. Camera will work in any mode, but files will show F1 or F0. Also no focal length info.
Manual focus is a pain, especially in video mode. But the NEX peaking function helps and I think I can get pretty quick with it after some practice.
I'd give it 5 stars if it were not for the release button. Since I know how to fix it, I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one, but that's just me.
1) The red dot on the MC lenses do not line up with the dot on the adapter. You have to put it on at a different place.
2) The adapter can get a little stuck on the lens and needs a bit of help to get it off. This is not a massive issue for me, because this is the only Minolta lens I will be using with it. But, if I had several, it would be a bit of a hassle to stick something inside the adapter to push a little bit of metal back to allow the lens to detach.
Overall, great adapter, though. Focuses to infinity very well, and I used it all day at a wedding yesterday with no issues.
