Product Description

This Fotodiox lens mount adapter is made with high standard precision. The leaf spring design in the adapter holds the lens tight to the camera body ensuring there is no play between the camera and the lens. It’s all metal design and polished surface is designed to guarantee smooth mounting and long lasting experiences. This Adapter has a built-in 1.4x Multi-Coated Focus Correction lens to adjust for infinity focus, the glass element can be removed for macro photography (for instructions on how to remove the glass element click here). This lens mount adapter allows all Sony Alpha (A-mount) lenses and Minolta AF (A-mount) to fit on the Canon EOS camera body and still maintain the full control of the aperture adjustment by use of the adapters built-in aperture dial. The dial move smoothly (no click-stops) allowing the user to quickly and easily adjust the aperture as needed for any given situation.

Although the lens will fit physically, automatic diaphragm, auto-focusing, or any other functions will not operate correctly while using this adapter. In this case "stop-down mode" will need to be used when metering since the lens does not have the ability to have its aperture controlled by the camera body. You can shoot with manual mode or aperture priority mode. Infinity focusing is allowed.

Compatible Cameras (including, but not limited to): 1d/1ds, Mark II, III, IV, X, C, 5D, 5D Mark II/III 7D, 10D, 20D, 30D, 40D, 50D, 60D, 60Da, Rebel xt, xti, xs, xsi, t1i, T2i, T3, T3i, T4, 300D, 350D, 400D, 450D, 500D, 550D, 1000D

Great product. Fits perfect. I own a Canon T3 (not the T3i). It does not link up the electrically components of the lens if anyone is wondering, so the auto-focus will not work. A word of warning sometimes when you use alpha lens if the auto-focus is on then you will have to mount it on something that can turn it off in order to use manual. For people who are new to adapters, it will crop your lens and magnify, on avg most adapters magnify by .4X so for ex. if you have a 50mm it will be equal to about a 70mm. The adapter is a little long, it's about 1/2-1''

~~UPDATED REVIEW~~ I'm not changing the 4stars because it I base my stars on what the product say it will do and it does its job fine.

Key factors why you should not.
1. There's an optical pieces - adding a 'zoom'(1.4x), degrades picture quality, theres a max aperture(probably around a 1.4).
2. No electronic function(basically no auto-focus).

Factors why I choose to get it.
1. Had old lens that had uses/cheap used lens on ebay/craigslist(but sadly became quickly obsolete)
2. For the fun of it.

Conclusion - In the end, it became a waste of money. My suggestion on new lens, just get the Canon ones or find an adapter without a lens.

After reading the good reviews on this product, I ordered with confidence. When I received the product, I was delighted that it fit my 7D body very snugly as did all my Maxxum A-mount lenses. This was encouraging. It also had a nice aperture ring that reminded me of the old days of using manual SLR's and their lenses. So far so good. The lenses even unscrewed from the adapter nicely and there was no play in the fitting.

However, the problem arose when I started shooting with it. All the images shot with my A-mount lenses connected w/ this adapter were super soft, blurry, foggy, and any lights in the scene would bloom into a blobby mess. Forget about nice crisp bokehs and stars. Also images were murky and darker than what the meter is indicating. In short, the images I got using this adapter were a big disappointment and basically unusable. I did some research and found that many have had the same issue w/ Fotodiox Pro adapters, albeit for other mounts like MD for example. Perhaps it's the inherent nature of glass adapters but certainly, the 4 glowing reviews (before mine) did not indicate this. This is a good reason not to trust products with only 4 total reviews. The only reason that someone may want to keep this adapter is because they have very specialized or beloved A-mount lenses that they must use on a EOS body, or that they're shooting mainly in broad daylight stopped down to at least f8. Even then, the images are still soft and bloomy, and certainly not for anything approaching professional or even prosumer usage. Be warned!

This is really an outstanding adapter and really exceeded my expectations. I am using this with the Minolta 70-210mm f4 "beer can" lens on my t5i and have gotten some outstanding results. At first i was a bit skeptical about ordering this because of all the comments talking about how much an optical adapter can degrade quality, but i took the plunge and couldn't be any happier. I will post some pictures taken with this lens and adapter so you can see the results for yourself.

Bought this adapter after I had inherited an old 1985 Minolta SLR camera with many lenses. I was sceptical at first, however after seeing the beautiful pictures that resulted was amazing. No fisheye effects, cloudiness or anything that is possible to result from usuing and adapter such as this. Works wonderfully.

...the Minolta lens I use on my T3i produces very milky grey images. Very little color gets through to the sensor. Compared to my other Canon lenses hte images produced honestly look pretty darn bad.

The reason I gave this 4 stars is because this may or may not be the adapters fault...might just be the old lens?

The adapter fits very snug with little movement and allows me to use older Minolta lenses on my new Canon body which is the whole point after all and it does this well.

The 80s film AF lens are totally incompatible with modern DSLR camera, don't waste money on this piece , the Canon consumers lens are not expensive, or you can buy the affordable third party Sigma or Tamron lens which are compatible to the DSLR camera body.

I went after this adapter despite poor reviews because it is the only one of this kind. It sucked. My beautiful Minolta colors were nowhere to be found. I thought it would never work, and my old lenses would never go digital. However, I found a way around this that saved my hope!

The dreaded glass piece is easily removable! You simply hold the glass between a cloth, and gently screw the adapter clockwise until the screw-in glass piece comes undone. Infinity focus is not achievable without the glass, so don't toss it. However, if you want to be able to shoot with this adapter on days where things are not perfectly bright, you will still be able to focus sharply without the glass and a zoom lens, just with a slightly wonky range, but now with those Minolta colors that everyone raves about.

This works great with my Beercan 70-210. Purchase it and REMOVE THAT GLASS!
