This is a manual adapter, so lens functions that rely on electronic communication with the camera body (autofocus, AE metering, image stabilization, etc.) will be disrupted.
Set your exposure manually or meter using your camera's Aperture Priority (stop-down) mode.
If your lens does not have a manual aperture control ring, it will stop down to its smallest f/stop by default.

It can be a little finnicky to get on and off, but definitely does what I wanted it to!
2/28/16: Updated to add a photo, so you can see the results. Vivitar 85-205 Zoom. This adapter is amazing on the Canon T5.
6/10/2016 Added a picture showing the small flange. Notice the locking pin for the camera to the adapter.
The only caveat is your lens MUST HAVE AN AUTO/MANUAL SWITCH FOR THE APERTURE. Otherwise, you're stuck shooting wide open or permanently converting your lens to manual. My 50mm f/2.8 Domiplan has a pin for aperture control that must be depressed, which this ring doesn't do. I've also heard that some lenses end up 60 degrees offset when mounted. My two M42 lenses don't suffer from this.
Good if you have a big collection of lenses from your granddad or your adventures on eBay.
Adapter does not work either on full frame Canon 5D Mk2 or CMOS Canon Rebel XT with Pentak M42 Super Takumar 50mm, f1.4, Tokina 28mm f.2.8, or Vivitar 300mm, f5.6. It mounts but does not allow for aperture ring control. Only shows F00, blurry on all lenses and on all camera bodies. Fotodiox literature not accurate. According to Fodiox chart and graphic, it should be V1, but it doesn't work. No where to ask them what should work if what they have on chart is false. Amazon promptly refunded and told me to keep it. Guess it was not worth the hassle of handling and certainly not worth my time testing it on all lenses and cameras.
There are other adapters that have a (magical?) chip in them that allows your digital SLR to indicate when you have achieved best focus. I have now ordered that and hope that will give me more consistent results (but still with the need to manually stop down the f-stop). The adapters with the chip are more expensive but still not much more considering the advantage.
I am looking forward to seeing just how good the Takumar lens does on the Canon. Many years ago I had the lens tested and it was rated "excellent" on most f-stops. So this will be telling... can a nearly 50 year old lens perform as well or better than a modern "normal" zoom? We'll see.
Edit: Tried it again on the 5DS and it's working now.
