By The Travelin' H-Family VINE VOICE on March 15, 2011
I'm a photographer and I received this for my birthday. I wanted one, so I was excited to get it, but I was a little disappointed with it as a mug.

The first thing is that the epoxy sticker on the side came off in the dishwasher the first time I washed it. So I realized that it's not to go in the dishwasher. And I was able to glue the sticker back on, so that wasn't a huge issue.

The worst thing is that it doesn't really keep the coffee warm. I have other travel mugs that keep coffee pretty warm for hours, but with this one my coffee was cold, cold, cold within 30 minutes. This can actually be a good thing when you want to drink your coffee right away.

Another minor annoyance is the bottom ring (where the lens would actually attach to a camera) is removable. If you forget to unscrew it and let it dry out after washing, it will leak water.

Still, a very cool gift and amusing.

I received this Fotodiox Tumbler within a few days of ordering and was a little nervous because the reviews on it were good and bad. When I opened it, I was actually very impressed with the attention to detail and the size of the tumbler. I think it will make a great Christmas gift for the photography enthusiast in our family and I just can't wait to see what he thinks of it. The only negative thing about this item is the lid. It is neat, but it screws on and does not have an opening to drink out of. I already was aware of this when purchasing, though, so I'm not going to take off any stars for it. All in all, I really like this gift and believe it will be very well received.

Bought two of these. There is no slot on the top to drink from. You have to remove the top to drink. Try that while you are driving. Did some surgery with my Moto Tool to add a slot and make the cup usable.

I have seen others where you can move the rings - actually mount it to a camera - and where the top allowed you to drink out of it. But for the price this does the trick. came packaged well and delivered quickly (and shipped for free because of another product I ordered). Plus it is 16 oz - larger that a lot of other similar products.

I really like this travel mug - it always tricks everyone who sees it. My friend was super confused when he thought I had poured hot tea into my new lens. You can twist it and it "zooms" in and out, and you can switch a little Auto-Manual switch, which are neat details. The only downsides are 1) There's no sipping top so good luck if you're trying to drink this in the car without splashing all over yourself, and 2) Because of the lack of inner lid, when you unscrew the top you will inevitably drip condensation (and likely whatever was in the mug) onto yourself. But it looks awesome!

Bought this as a gift for a camera savy friend. I unpacked it before gifting it to insure quality. It appeared well made and was very realistic looking. I was shocked to find out it even has a telescopic feature (twist and it "zooms")!! My friend loved it. The only down side is the lid does not have a drinking hole, but I already knew this from other reviews before purchasing.

Being both a Nikon shooter, and a daily coffee drinker, I chuckled when I saw this product and decided I had to have it for the fun of it, and since the price wasn't bad, why not? I figured if it turned out to be low quality, oh well!

So you can drink from it . . . but only in certain conditions. One of those conditions is not the car. There is no slot to sip the beverage through the lid--it's completely closed. This means making hot coffee and drinking it in the car during the morning rush hour is not an option. And for those of us with 45-50 minute commutes, that means drinking the coffee once you get to work. Well, that works fine with my other coffee thermos--the Oxo brand (which is great), but not this. The coffee is barely lukewarm after 50 minutes. And since it has metal, I can't microwave it.

So I guess I could drink out of this around the house on the weekends, but I already have coffee mugs for that. Bottom line is, I see this being functional only if I am taking coffee with me out of the home, but have less than 20 minutes to go--that's when this coffee starts to drop to undesirably moderate temperatures. I would have given this 3 stars if it had a sipping hole in the lid, enabling me to drink in the car, but without that feature, it's hard to see this product as having much utility.

The best sub-$20 coffee thermos I've been able to find is by OXO, this one: http://www.amazon.com/OXO-Grips-LiquiSeal-Travel-Stainless/dp/B0001YH1LG

I recommend that instead of this Fotodiox if you are interested in utility.

Disclaimer - I do not intend to use this myself, I bought it as a gift so my comments only pertain to the product aesthetics.

The Good:
The gold box looks like one that a lens comes in.
The detail on the cup does look like a lens

The bad:
It doesn't say Nikon anywhere on this product
The inside of the cup smells like chemicals

The verdict:
The intended recipient is a Nikon enthusiast and it's definitely a novel item so we still plan to give it to him and if nothing else he will get a kick out of it and maybe put pens an pencils in it if he can't drink from it. I still would have preferred to get one that says Nikon as the product description states. If they make another version it would be nice if the lid were a sipper. As it is you have to remove the lid entirely to use the cup.
