It's truly unfortunate that this book has not been reviewed by anyone on Amazon yet. I bought the book several years ago and so my review won't be all that detailed. As a warning to anyone contemplating the purchase of this book: it is part of the SUNY series in Radical Social and Political Theory. Roeloff will challenge your beliefs about the purpose of foundations. In the book, she delves into how foundations are inextricably linked to the capitalist economic system and how they exist to support that system, not to undermine it. For those of you who thought that the Rockefeller and Ford Foundations existed to support liberal political goals, your beliefs will be challenged. I highly recommend this book for opponents of capitalism, be they Marxist, anarchist, socialist, or of any other kind of belief system. For more information on the web, look up the blog The Wrong Kind of Green. Cory Morningstar, the author of that blog, takes Roeloff's thesis and runs with it, showing, in concrete examples, just how NGOs reinforce the capitalist order and undermine everything that progressives claim to be in favor of. It's called "co-optation".
You won't find a better introduction to how foundations support capitalism. This is a superb study that is well-worth reading.
