Looking at my adult dog, some Springer Spaniel DNA might explain the bouncing around. She still weighs 50 pounds, exceeding the stated weight limit on the product description. Note: the attachment point of the harness slides several inches to either side without causing the entire harness to twist.
Product page states: Size XX-L size guide: 29-40 pounds, 29-35 chest 17-20" neck
SIZE My 19-month old mixed (kinda trim Black Lab shaped) has a 29" chest and a 17" neck. She weighs 50 pounds. Based on the reviews, the XXL seemed advisable. I have no idea how the manufactured determined the length/weight figures, but the LENGTHS seem pretty accurate. I cinched up the chest as tight as it would go and it is an exact fit. The neck is not adjustable.
EASE OF USE I prefer it to my other "step-thru" harness. You slide this one over her head and tuck it under her chest. You pull up the two ends, running one through a loop and snap them together. Takes less than five seconds. Easily slides on and off when unbuckled. I can't imagines her pulling out of it while buckled.
COMFORT (and SAFETY) I use a harness because I don't like having her neck take all of the force from a regular collar. The standard harness, however, only partially solved the problem; it still seemed to put significant pressure on her neck, particularly her throat. You can see from the picture, that this Comfort Harness has a wide strap that is pulled over her head. Most of the force seems to be borne by her shoulders.
DOG-CENTRIC VALUE I own a friendly, energetic, dog-park-raised, mutt. See her at [...] She's learned to greet other dogs by bouncing up and down, inviting them to play. She also gives a couple of bounces if she sees a cat or a squirrel. This harness eliminates the fear of her exuberance causing harm while on leash.
DURABILITY You can expect your dog to pull a little -- or perhaps a lot -- harder with a harness than with a collar. Just as she needed leash&collar training, a little leash&harness training is taking place. The harness is fairly lightweight and there is no heavy strap around the neck and shoulders. I've been using the harness about a week and I expect this first week will be its roughest treatment. Nonetheless, there are no signs of developing trouble...YET. I'll update the review if warranted.
BOTTOM LINE: Strongly Recommended! It is a comfortable and humane way to walk your dog. As it does not seem very durable, it is important to train your dog not to constantly pull with this harness. For my dog's sake, I would buy another if this one wears out. The XXL Reflective Red was only $16.00. The XXL Blue is only $8.73. Prices vary inconsistently by color and size and style, but they are all pretty inexpensive.
I bought two of these harnesses. I wanted them mainly for the reflective safety. Which isn't great. However the real issue is the sizing. I have two dogs and the small size harness didn't really fit the miniature Schnauzer. However it fit the Yorkie perfectly.
There is no adjustment on around the neck which makes purchasing this item kinda risky unless you know for sure this will fit your dog. My dogs are perfect weight. So if you dog is just a little husky the sizing may not be an issue.
Pay attention to the measurements. It is true to the measurements listed on the description, but I would never have thought of my dog as a large dog.
Highly recommend for a small dog under 10 pounts.
