"Why is she screaming like that?" " They're just having fun, I guess. Grown ups are so weird," I answered. "You don't have to be scared. As long as your mommy gets enough sleep tonight, she'll wake up in time to go to the farm with us tomorrow."

Maggie Crow has a secret from her family...A Man...Elliot McLaughlin
Elliot's family has been missing for 14 years and he feels Maggie knows what happened to them. He befriends her to find out what happened all those years ago.
"The Crows-as they were called by the town-lived off their land mostly, rarely coming into town to purchase tools, sparse food, clothing and other odds and ends."
I have to say that sometimes while reading this book, I felt like I was going to hear banjos playing and felt like I was being thrown into a scene of Deliverance. lol Creeppyyyy...This book will sooo keep you up late at night and up early in the morning to find out what is happening next. Such a page turner!! I could not get enough, I wanted everything to stop until I had read the last page. lol
I gave this book 5 Stars!! Gooo my dark book readers and one click ASAP...you will not be disappointed!!!
While Elliot was off serving his country in the Marines, the unthinkable happened to his wife and son. It's taken him fourteen years, but Elliot has finally figured out who he thinks is responsible.
Maggie Crow lives with her father and two brothers. Over the years, she's watched the three Crow men do terrible things. She feels guilty and scared but still loves the only family she's ever known.
When Maggie meets Elliott, it doesn't take her too long to figure out who he is. However she doesn't realize he already knows what her family did years ago. Through the lies and deception, these two broken characters develops feelings for each other and realize they are stronger together than apart. But how do you choose between love and family?
This story was incredibly sad to me. Elliott lost his wife and son to three evil vile monsters. They were just horrible. Maggie lived a life I can't even begin to imagine. Having to witness what her family did and live with the nightmares had to have been unbelievably hard. I can't imagine the not knowing. The questions and the guilt Elliot lived with on a daily basis determined to blame himself for being gone. Maggie was so naive and weak to me, but at the same time I found it hard to fault her and be angry. She lived with threats from her family constantly and the fear of what they would do. The fear of what they did do. I just wished she would have tried to tell someone, but the way they kept her so secluded it was pretty impossible.
This was a dark, romantic suspense that kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the story. There are some scenes that are really difficult to imagine and more that just left my heart hurting. I was happy with the way it ended and look forward to more from this author in the future.
Maggie Crow did not ask to be born into the family she grew up with. She loved her father dearly and knew she was loved and treasured deeply by him. Her brothers? Well they were a different story, but as long as her dad was around, she knew she was as safe as can be. At least as safe as anyone can be when raised by monsters. Because that is what her father and brothers were.
She did not always know what her family was, but once she did, she felt powerless to change anything. What could she do? This was her family. In the beginning of the story, Maggie was a bit lost and despondent and at times weak and scared. But we saw her change and fight for what she wanted, even it if was not always the right thing, in her heart it was.
Elliot McLaughlin did not plan on becoming a husband and father at a very young age, but sometimes your dealt with cards you can’t change. Nobody knew this better than Elliot. To support the family he loved, he joined the Marines. He saw and did terrible things, but nothing could prepare him for what he would find when he returned.
Elliot comes back to find his family missing. No clues, no bodies, nothing. It is as if they just vanished. But their loss changes him and he vows revenge on those who stole what he valued most. Elliot was such a strong and brave man who lost his way. He did horrible things and hurt an innocent girl, and though he called himself a monster, he was just a broken and devastated man.
Lies and vengeance bring Maggie and Elliot together. One looking to escape the horrors of life and the other looking for answers he craved. But what they never expected was to find in each other what they least expected to need, want or desire. My heart continuously broke for Maggie and Elliot. They suffered such unspeakable horror at the hands of others. There seemed no end to what life threw at them.
Elliot is determined to avenge his family at all cost. But as he gets closer to the truth, can he let Maggie be pawn in his revenge? And at what cost? Will finding out the truth bring him the peace he so desperately wants and needs?
Four Crows is a dark story full of tragedies and despair. There are some very hard subjects in this story that may be hard for some, but it is a compelling story. I was consumed. I could not stop reading. Terrified of how it would end, but needing to know. It is hard to say I loved such a dark story, but I did. The author did an amazing job ensuring the readers felt every emotion, every tragedy and every heartbreak. Truly a great suspenseful read. Another must read for 2017.
