First of all, sorry for my English, as I am French... (nobody is perfect)
It is the first time I write a review for a book on Amazon.
I have purchased and red more than 30 books related to screenwriting during the past 3 years.
This one is by far the less useful book I have on the subject. The four magic questions are really vague and are not interesting at all if you want to write a meaningful screenplay.
Basically those questions are : what does the protagonist want, what is is worst nightmare, what would he die for and how does he solve his problem ?
Every screenwriter know that those questions are important. That's why it is one of the first thing they learn when studying their craft.
So you must think that this book gives more insight on those questions ? Unfortunately the answer is NO !
When I red this book, I saw that those 4 questions were part of a more global method by the author. Maybe the system is interesting, but those four questions must be the least interesting part...
This book is 100 pages, and 15% of those pages are just blank pages to put your own ideas...
I would not have problems with that if :
- the book was not so expensive
- the questions to answer were not so vague, simple, and basics.

I am deeply sorry for the author to put such a bad review, but I have waited several months for this book to be published and it is a very huge disapointment.
Maybe the book was very clever and I didn't get it.
If it is the case, I would be delighted to be offered some explanations...

The Four Magic Questions of Screenwriting work. I have worked with writers that are struggling to write their screenplays using the methods of Syd Field, Robert McKee and Vicki King. When I introduce them to the frameworks presented in the Four Magic Questions of Screenwriting and How to Write a Screenplay in 10 Weeks, their struggle ends. I fully endorse the Horowitz System. Not only will The Four Magic Questions make you a better screenwriter, if you apply them to your life, they wiil make you a better human being. - Ola Taiwo, Classroom 34

It doesn't matter if you're writing a screenplay or a novel the Horowitz System of the Four Magic Questions works period. The Four Magic Questions are designed to create greater understanding of the story you are telling, the relationships between the characters, and assist you in making the hard choices that are often required to create a compelling story. They also help you work through writer's block. If you're having an issue with what you're writing all you have to do is go back through the Four Magic questions for your character or scene and find the missing piece to the puzzle. Most people don't take a family road trip or vacation without a plan and a road map. For a writer, this book is the road map to the goal you are pursuing; a finished manuscript that's a gem!
I've read numerous books on writing; how to write, how to plot, how to create real characters, how to structure and organize, and Marilyn's book is the only one that has given me the answers and understanding I was searching for to create a fiction novel that's plot driven full of twists and turns because her formula for structuring your written work works! If you invest yourself in her method and work your way through this goldmine of a book before you start writing, once you do have the structure of you screenplay you will find yourself writing your way to your goal faster than you ever thought possible. It doesn't matter what you're writing, a screenplay, a novel, or a non-fiction piece of work; this system will work with whatever you are creating. The bottom line for me is that I will never write another piece of work without using the Horowitz System of the Four Magic Questions first.
