Now that this is off our way, for the good parts: I enjoyed Four. It was a very unique book, beautifully written, with relatable and sexy characters. However, the world building could have used more attention and detail, especially in the beginning of the book. Even if I had read the first book in the series, it’s always good to remind the reader where we are, as we usually read a ton of books in the breaks of waiting for the next volume of the series. Also, the pace was so slow! I suffer from reader’s anxiety: when the book starts to get nowhere after a X number of pages/chapters (varies from a book to another), I get impatient, grumpy and desperate for relevant events on the story. It sucks hard, because then you can’t enjoy all the little good things along the plot and it was precisely the case with Four =(
I’m a sucker for gay romance, tattooed guys and informal romantic relationships that get out of hands on my books, so Four made it to three stars: an enjoyable ride that had tons of potential to be the best of my life and it wasn’t.
I have to say I enjoyed this read. This is Mayr’s story, he is the head of the guard. Mayr has quite the attitude and is very sarcastic. He is continuously used by women because of his status. He is looking for the one to give his heart to. When his ex lover Sarene returns Mayr ends up meeting Tash who definitely gets his attention. For the record I didn’t like Sarene. Could he be the one?
Tash is looking for redemption from his criminal past. He has thrown himself into helping others to make up for his past. When he meets Mayr there is an instant connection. Tash is also trying to become an Uldana Priest, this could be a problem for their future. Could they lose each other for good or will things finally work out for Mayr?
I really liked Mayr and Tash. They were both strong characters. It was great seeing Aelyn and Lire from book one. I had some LOL moments with the bantering that took place. If you looking for a good M/M fantasy romance you will like this read.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. Reviewed by MAustin from Alpha Book Club
This was an enjoyable read. I was a little surprised. Sometimes fantasy books just are not my thing but this was a good one. The details about the world that the author created seemed so real to me. I felt I was in the story.
The characters were fantastic. Mayr was a good strong character I really fell in love with his character. He was also had some sense of humor.
The writing of this story was very well done. It was also a fast page turner for me. If you like fantasy books this is for you. You will fall in love.
I received a eARC to give a honest review.
I really enjoyed this book and how easy it was to feel connected to the characters and everything. It had a very nice flow to it and didn’t feel rushed or boring at all. Mayr and Tash are great, strong characters and it was sometimes painful to read about their struggles.
Archer Kay Leah did an amazing job with this story and I very much look forward to reading more in the future!
