Brady left their hometown with Cate, Claire’s twin sister, to find fame and fortune, or at least some decent acting roles in Los Angeles. The two are cast as leads in a movie and their rise to fame begins. Brady has separated from Cate but to keep up appearances, agrees to stay together until Cate’s new film premiers.
Cate sabotages everyone’s lives when she starts telling lies and finds herself in trouble. Claire and Brady come to her rescue by pretending to be engaged. Things spiral more out of control as Cate tells more lies and tries to manipulate Brady and Claire. Pretending to be engaged to Claire is not a hardship for Brady.
Being in love with sweet, quiet librarian Claire feels all to right. Claire is unsure whether or not Brady is acting or really falling her. Will Claire and Brady get their happy ever after or will Cate succeed in winning Brady back?
This was a fun and entertaining story with likeable characters that you want to support and cheer on hoping for that happy ending. The characters were well written and complex. The story line was riveting and kept my attention to the very end. I really enjoyed reading this book and had trouble putting this book down. I highly recommend this book to other readers.
This book really sent me on an emotional journey. Melissa's characters are so well developed & thought out that you either love or hate them. There really isn't much in between. Cate has become an egocentric arrogant actress where everyone is to dance to her tune & do her bidding. Brady can't see the truth about Cate & keeps going along with her. Claire is the only one that sees what's going on. The plot keeps building until an ending I didn't see coming.
Though I’ll freely admit that Ms. McClone’s book description intrigued me into reading this novella, it didn’t take me long to realize that because of some of the characters in this novella I really hesitated in liking this one or not. I can say right off the bat that I HATE/LOATH Claire’s twin sister, Cate, and their parents. I get the reasons that their parents sided with Cate as they were not allowing Claire to tell them her side of the story but how they treated Claire and then their quick reversal after they learned the truth REALLY irked me. THEN there is the phenomenon that is Claire’s twin sister Cate, who all I can really say is crazy. Claire might have been a bit crazy too to agree to everything she did for Cate. However, I completely understand her love for Brady. Though Brady was a bit dim-witted because he thought Cate did everything “out of the goodness of her heart,” he truly was the perfect man for Claire. The ONLY reason I stuck through this whole novella was because of Claire and Brady’s relationship, along with Claire’s silly cat Thor and their animated bodyguards.
Though I struggled through this novella, I would STILL recommend it to those looking for a new adventure from the ‘Four Weddings and a Fiasco’ World and/or looking for a quirky contemporary romance.
