I have not read books by Judy Ann Davis before, and I have to say I loved every minute. The more I read the more I fell in love with the characters and their story. It had all the elements. A hint of mystery lots of intrigue and a bit of ghostly interference as well as romance.
Highly recommended for all who loves a good romantic suspense.
Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with the opportunity to read and review this book.
Successful Dallas lawyer Rich Redman returns to his Grandma Gertie’s old family home in Hickory Valley, Pennsylvania, to settle the estate and prepare the house for sale. A widower, he brings his eight-year-old daughter, Estella, along with him. Gertie’s instructions via her will puzzle Rich: Before you settle the estate, find lost family jewels and your half-sister—a half- sister he had never known about up until now. This is bound to complicate any swift resolution of his duties as Gertie’s heir.
Rich’s plans are further unsettled when the first person he meets is beautiful and elusive Torrie Larson, youngest sister of the Larson kids he knew when he was a teenager in Hickory Valley. Now a single mother of six-year-old Iris, Torrie has her own emotional and financial quagmire which prevents her from allowing herself to return Rich’s growing love for her.
As the conflict intensifies, many locals figure in Rich and Torrie’s struggles to resolve their relationship and find the answers to mysteries affecting both of them. Ivan Winters, snarky, controlling banker; spunky housekeeper, Lulu Smith and town know-it-all Realtor Marlene are key.
A complex plot, a touch of mystery, and the droll granny ghost whose voice resonates from a porch rocker whenever Rich least expects it draw in the reader and add depth to the romance. Spot-on characterizations of bright, curious and sometimes maddening children in action as well as some good-old-boy hometown flavoring for the Larson family and others delight the reader.
All told, Judy Ann Davis has a solid novel in Four White Roses that is sure to satisfy any reader of romance and mystery.
I was given an ARC for an honest review.
