First, let me say I do love the author and have read all her previous books BUT this was a bad joke... There is absolutely no reason whatsoever that the series should not have ended with this one... nothing happens and then guess what??? Another cliffhanger... she should have waited, written one last book and ended it rather than trying to milk all she can from her readers... I skipped most of this one because it was boring and repetitive... just bad... oh well...

One dimensional villains who "chuckle" and "smirk" incessantly? Check.
Googling masked as research? Check.
Diamond mines in Africa 400 years prior to the discovery of diamonds? Check.
Unenforcable legal debts? Check!
Prime ministers like Winston Churchill & Margaret Thatcher, plus an assorted number of kings, queens and diplomats that have signed the death warrants of innocent women as late as the 1900's, just because the Hawks are so powerful? Check!

Yes, all you Brits out there: Pepper IS in fact saying that England - a democracy - is nothing more than a banana republic in disguise. That your ruthless papparazzis, known for their exposees of royalty, celebrities and politicians, have failed to notice this gigantic scandal that would topple people of real power...

Worst of all; Pepper shuts down completely when she's confronted with her shoddy work, lack of quality control and credibility.
Because who cares, "It's about the emotion!" (Yes, that's what the author more or less replied.)

*Sigh*

The quality of education must be dropping like a stone if hr fans consider this a well researched book. Fourth Debt is a result of basic googling at best, and whatever betas she's using are either lacking the knowledge or the guts to tell her she needs to focus of quality control.

I can only conclude that the clever people stopped reading a long time ago - when Pepper placed Milan in Spain.

Which begs the question, why do I continue reading this series?

*Facepalm*

Now bring on the "click unhelpful" campaign from Pepper's fans.

Enough of this BS. This book just sucked. This author just soaked me for another $4 really for nothing. I'm going to wait and see if anyone is willing to post a spoiler about the final book. I'm done spending money on this author permanently. Too much useless internal dialogue. A good editor would have advised this author to cut the crap and turn these books into a trilogy. I'm not even sure what the 4th debt was or if it was paid it in this book called the 4th Debt. You can read my spoilers on Goodreads. https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/1321596522?book_show_action=false

I'm writing this review and I don't claim to be good at writing reviews. However I know what I like in a book and what I don't like. With that being said I really liked this series up until now.

The beginning of the book was very boring it was so slow I fell asleep. Nila really got on my nerves with her saying He's dead He's dead or he's alive he's alive. I really thought I was reading Fifty shades of Grey with all the repeats. She also seamed really weak in this book yea, in the beginning she acted all bad but nothing came out of it. Now on to the torchering devices first of all where is the recovery time between the torcher. Plus I googled some of the stuff to get a better images of these devices and how they worked. I was surprised that in the book it sounded like she just copied and pasted the information. Another problem I have with this book is Jaz is suppose to be there for all the rest of the debts, yet Bonnie keeps her away. Why have amendments to the debt if she is being left out? Now the lawyer and history stuff some people of the OMG crowd says its a fantasy who cares about the history. The thing is people who are not educated enough in history believe that some of the stuff in the book is accurate. I see a lot of fault in that.

Another thing is it was stated by the author that the story is all about power and greed. I don't see where this has to do with power or greed I see a helpless lady who is being torchered by some debt that legally does not exist. Greed if you count them stealing diamonds greed then OK.

With all this said to I'm confused on many things in this book also typos maybe they are. However if they are the author has not said anything at the time I wrote this review.

It is undisputed that Pepper Winters has such a fabulous use of words to demonstrate emotion and feelings that she has developed quite a well deserved following that is almost cult like. The fifth book in this series was so awaited, heavily discussed because of the cleverness of the plot that we all held our breath (SPOILERS AHEAD) and were at the edge of our seats waiting for the continuation of Jethro and Nila's story. We needed the book, wanted to know, waited till early hours of the night for the fifth book and quickly read through the night. And maybe my expectations were too high-- Ms. Winters had delivered four books that made us "believe" and care about the Weaver-Hawks saga.

After reading fifth debt my reaction was not OMG, which seems to be the phrase most of the reviewers like to use "what an amazing book," but what did I just read? Did I just read that? Why? Is it the same story? Why why did we need to go that way and a fantastic story all of the sudden became ridiculous. And the story that was fascinating and captivating, until we get to this book became a comedy of errors and complete disregard of any logic or reason (and according to most of this is okay cause the story makes up for it but it doesn't for me). Most of Ms. Winter's fans have been gushing about what a wonderful read this was and I consider myself a Ms. Winters fan, however, I am not a fan of this book. And yes I know this is fiction and yes I know she can write however she wants, because it's about emotion and relationships. And that is my fundamental problem with this book emotion should not make intelligent, involved and thoughtful readers disregard logic, and consistency.
