Product Description

The Fowler full one year warranty electronic caliper, 54-101-150-2, has a 0 to 6” (0 to 150mm) measuring range with 0.0005” (0.01mm) increments for precision and a stainless steel frame for long life. Its digital readout LCD shows inch or metric units for versatility, and either absolute or incremental measurement readings are user-selectable. The electronic caliper measures inside, outside, depth and step values for versatility and includes a protective case and CR2032 lithium battery. This product has 1 year arranty offered by Fowler High Precision. If you experience any problem contact Fowler directly for warranty claims. Digital or electronic calipers are measuring instruments commonly used for inspection in manufacturing to provide the precise measurements of an object. A pair of jaw attached to a long beam with a marked scale is used to take inside, outside and step measurements. An additional depth probe slides along the beam to take depth measurements. One jaw is fixed t the end of the scale, while the other jaw slides along it with gearless precision to take measurements. The reading is electronically generated and displayed on a digital, high-resolution screen as a single value. Digital calipers can take differential measurements, which are used to determine the difference in measurements between two objects, by zeroing the display at any point along the scale. Some digital calipers can switch between standard and metric units, and some can output readings to a computer or printer for reading measurements. Compared to dial calipers, digital calipers provide measurements that are faster, easier and more error-free, but they are more fragile mechanically and electronically, and do not resist coolant well. Vernier calipers are more durable then digital calipers because they do not have internal moving parts, but they can be more difficult to read. Digital calipers are commonly used in fields such as metalworking, mechanical engineering, machining, carpentry and medicine. Fowler High Precision, an American company, manufactures inspection and measurement instruments such as electronic indicators, calipers, bore gages, and digital scales. The company, founded in the USA in 1946, is headquartered in Newton, MA.

I purchased this caliper around three months ago for work. It was used a few times every day. when compared with my coworkers Mitutoyo it was spot on. Then without warning it wouldn't turn on. I tried new batteries multiple times. The caliper never got wet or hit the floor. I would recomend saving the money and purchasing a Mitotoyo or Brown & Sharpe. I wanted to submit this without any stars but I was forced to choose at least one.

Good digital caliper. Not a mitutoyo but if you're looking to save some bucks and still get good effective readings, this is it. Remember, it doesn't matter how much something costs, of you dont take care of it, it all breaks the same.

I'm not an engineer, and calipers are something I do not require frequently or professionally. I'm sure there are Bentleys of the caliper world at considerable expense, which no upstanding professional would be caught without, but if you want a surprisingly well-built, functional unit of quality that utterly belies its price tag and "Xtra-Value" namesake, this set of Fowler's is just what the doctor ordered. It's a very simple device that performs a singular, if not altogether boring task, and it performs reliably and competently. I've used "cheap" calipers before -- you know the kind, almost "lighter than air" -- and I was expecting a similar experience. I was pleasantly surprised by the packaging (it comes in a very useful locking case) and by the sheer heft of the tool itself. It's actually an instrument you feel "good" about using. It didn't take long before I took to measuring the consistency of size amongst various chicken eggs, determining what the actual average variable between "Extra Large" and "Jumbo" eggs are at my local Walmart.

Yeah... I was the guy measuring eggs in your store with a caliper -- a set of FOWLER 54-101-150-2 calipers, to be precise -- so watch out Big Egg Producers. I'm onto you...

If you need a good set of inexpensive 6" calipers I don't think you can go wrong with this set. For under $35.00 they are a great value. Slide them back and forth a few times to work them in. Very smooth.

Better than the Frankford Arsenal piece of junk I bought initially (that went back to Amazon) I would change two things: It should have an on / off button, it does have an on button but you have to rely on the auto-off feature to turn it off and at least mention that the rubber piece in the battery compartment needs to be removed prior to installing the battery, you can still install the battery with it in there, just doesn't work.

this is a pretty good quality Caliper for the price your paying, I wouldn't criticize the product because Fowler does show in the package that it will be .005 off, Mitutoyo , starrett or any other caliper brand will also let you know the there own precision rate on there tools, calipers are not made for pressing hard like a micrometers, I worked with this caliper for 4 years and always made good quality parts for a shop with a tolerance rate on most of their parts of .010 even if I spent $100+ for a caliper if I didn't know how to use it I would still be making bad part!

P.S if you don't know how to use a caliper please stay on your micrometers

This is one of those tools you never think that you actually need, but having it certainly does make many jobs easier. No more fumbling for the right size socket or wrench. Clamp this on a bolt head, read off the number, and grab exactly the right size tool. It's also fabulous for taking any kind of measurement where accuracy is critical and eliminates a lot of mistakes.

I don't have much experience with calipers so I can't truly speak to the quality/price of this item compared to others. That being said, it feels solid in the hand, sliding action is pretty smooth and it seems to properly close to 0, etc. I'm happy with my purchase for the money. It came in a translucent blue plastic box that's fairly nice by comparison to the packaging you might expect. It has a plastic hinge, however, that I fear will eventually wear out. Extra battery was included, and although I haven't confirmed voltage in the 2nd battery, the first one I grabbed seems to be working.
