For those who served in the Army (myself), you'll know that the standard issue PT mat has OD green straps attached to the mat. So you roll the mat in the same direction every time, so that the two straps are on the outside and you can wrap them around the mat and tie them.
Instead, this mat does not have straps attached to it. It has two black, elastic straps you just throw over each end after rolling. Again, the standard issue PT mat straps were not elastic... you had to tie them.
Secondly, this mat isn't as durable as the standard issue mat. I'm pretty sure I can just rip this in half with my hands, but that wasn't the case with the standard issue mat. Those things got abused and still held up. This one gets rips and nicks easily.
(I don't know what strap is in the picture... something with a buckle? I got black elastic)
It's too bulky for the insulation/comfort you get from it. It's also not sized well to fit, shall we say, taller-than-average or wider-than-average people. And I've never been comfortable on this pad. I would frankly prefer spending time gathering leaves and things over using this.
There is a plus, in that it's simple to deploy and stands up to the elements, but then there are much better foam pads out there that offer more insulation and are just as durable.
My advice is to steer away from this pad.
The mat is good on damp ground in a lean to, after one has prepared the ground for sleeping. Put the mat over the pine straw, and roll out your bag, good to go!

Pretty wide when all rolled up. Should make sure it will attach to your pack before you buy it.Published 3 months ago by Cameron Jenkins
Size as described. Cushions well on small pebbles. But scratches easy. Figure a way to not loose the elastic ties. Worth the price.Published 3 months ago by ABHIJEET SARKAR
The pad had some small chunks taken out of it - although I may have selected a used one by mistake. I'm not sure. Read morePublished 4 months ago by Josh
