Fox lives Hockey. Unfortunately, he didn't make the team. His sports stars family didn't accept his sport, of choice, to not even get a team? He'd never hear the end. Oh, there'd be those who would sympathize—not what he wanted to hear.
Sasha has finally ended it with her boyfriend of over a year. Too bad she still works with him. She has an internship at a sports publication. It goes along with the studies she is completing. Her thesis is even a topic relevant to her work: the pressure young players are under and put on themselves. She maintains that their failure can often be caused by that pressure. With her close relationship with Fox, her boss wants her to use him as her example, however, she won't do that to him. He is part of the reason she chose the topic, but she won't infringe on their friendship.
And then one night...yep. A couple of drinks, a mushy movie, some truths about her lack of meaningful tender sex and it happened. The promises of it being a one-time thing...well you figure it out. Can they remain friends? Can they have a relationship? Can he be faithful to one? What impact will their families have on them?
I love Fox, felt for him, cheered for his successes, and yes (sorry guy) felt sorry for his disappointments. One good thing about a romance, you know you're going to be happy for them in end. Read on to find out if they can find their HEA together.
The backstory of Sasha, Fox's best friend and most concerned supporter, was well developed and well written. She had written her master's thesis on athletes and the pressure they're under when they've been groomed all their lives for a certain sport and what happened when they don't make it and have no backup plan. She also presented this to the television station where she interned. They ran with the story and aired it, making Fox the center of the story, before she had a chance to tell Fox herself. How would this affect the burgeoning relationship between the two of them?
Gramps wasn't as vicious as he had been in the books of Bryce, Dax and Echo, but he hadn't quite learned his lesson. In spite of being told off by Fox and Fox's dad, Gramps still had his opinion and shared it freely.
Fox, as a goalie played against a player, Ransom, from the best team in the league, who was extremely quick; and as someone pointed out, looked like the Coulters. Exactly who is Ransom and does he have ties to the Coulters? Does Fox achieve his dream of playing professionally? Is Sasha rewarded for her story; and, what does Fox and the rest of his family think? The answers to these questions and many others make this an excellent book to read. Better in some ways than Bryce and Dax.
Fox is a hockey player and while he gives his all he continues to have doubts of his ability to play the sport on a professional level. Is he really any good? This is one of the twist. Unlike his siblings hockey is all Fox has and he has gotten to a point where he continue to doubt his ability and this has an effect on his play. And his future.
The other twist is the relationship between Sasha and Fox. Unlike the other stories this is not a love at first sight romance. This romance has been building over years. Sasha and Fox have been friends forever. They share secrets and goals and are there to support each other whenever they need to.
Sasha is wrote her thesis on the pressure of being good in a sport and how the pressure can effect your confidence and play. She wants to help Fox in any way she can.
One night after too much drinking, telling of secrets and a movie the two move beyond friendship. Can their relationship survive? Can they return to what they had? Do they even want to?
This is another great book by Nana Malone and whether your an avid reader of her stories or new to her you will enjoy it.
I received this book in return for an honest voluntary review.
