Want beautifully shaped tart shells easier, quicker, and with no mess? Utilize this convenient Tart Tamper for perfectly formed pastries! Made of durable, natural rubber wood, this tamper features two differently sized ends, making it suitable for a range of needs, including working in mini cupcake pans. To use, simply place a small amount of dough in the tart tin, dust end of the tamper with flour, and push dough down while turning the tamper slightly. You're left with a fabulous tart dough shell to fill with chocolate, fruit and other delicious fillings. This traditional tool can also be used to indent your burgers to keep them from doming up while grilling. Keep your fingers out of the dough and cut prep time in half!

It used to take me a few pushes with the PC tamper but only ONE with this tamper. When you have to fill a 5 dozen order of mini cheesecakes, that makes a huge difference!! So glad I took the leap and purchased this tamper. 👍🏼
The only minor drawback is that it is just simple turned wood without any sort of finish. Not unexpected, for four bucks, and that hwon't effect how it works, but will effect the longevity if it's used and washed frequently (it's the washing, not the tart tamping that will be rough on it)
Simple solution is to treat with a little food safe oil. I gave it a good coat of the Boos Mystery Oil that I use for my cutting board, just took a couple of minutes, problem solved.
It says it is for pastry, but I figured it would work fine for my low carb sausage and egg muffins.
I was pushing the sausage down in with my fingers, but thought this would work better.
Well, yes and no!
It works great to spread out the sausage into a cup shape in the tins.
BUT - meat sticks to the wood. Not sure if it sticks to pastry or not.
I tried greasing it, tried spraying it with pam, but it still stuck to the meat.
It still cut my time in making them in half, so all in all, I am glad I bought it.
DO NOT wash this dowel in your dish washer, otherwise You Will ruin it. Just wipe it with a paper towel. If you need to wash it then do so by hand, and apply another coat of oil then flour.
Have a Nice Day!
Glad I didn't listen to the other reviews, this product is great.
It used to take me 20 minutes to press Hong Kong style custard tarts which is the most time consuming part of the whole process.
Now I can get it done in less than 3 minutes. That's a lot of time saved. Just make sure you dip it in flour between each tart and spin it slightly when lifting up so the dough will release. Takes a little practice but the time saved is worth every penny.
