There are a few tips to make sure you do not crack it though because if you've never worked with terra cotta it's easy to do. First, I recommend seasoning it. For something this small I would soak it in water for two to four hours, then towel dry it. As an option I always hand rub is a few drops of olive oil. Trust me a few drops will coat this without oiling it up. Dry off the excess, then place it in a cold oven and bring it up to 250 degrees (F) and let it remain there for an hour. Turn off the heat and let it cool naturally.
After it's been seasoned your chances of cracking it are minimized. Use it by placing it in your oven when heating (or baking) breads and tortillas, and with place it at the bottom of your bread basket over the napkin. Once you set you baked goods on top and fold the napkin over it you will be treated to warm rolls or other baked delights for up to forty-five minutes. This stone really works and is very efficient at retaining heat when you have it covered.
A few other things to keep in mind: (1) let it cool naturally. Plunging a still-hot stone into cold water is a sure way to crack it. (2) After it has cooled rinse it with water and towel dry. NEVER use dish detergent on it! The terra cotta will absorb the soapy taste as well as any fragrances like lemon that the detergent contains and you have transformed this into an interesting trivet. Trust me on this - I ruined one when I was first using them.
I'm not sure how I feel about this yet. Not to mention that it came in a damaged/opened package as if someone had opened it before.
It was fairly inexpensive at about $6.
It is really easy to use and keeps bread/rolls warmer for longer, but only for about 15-20 minutes longer than if I'd used no warming stone at all. I even wrap the rolls in several cloth napkins with the stone in attempts to seal in as much heat as possible.
I will continue to use it because it's definitely better than using nothing at all. I just wish it emitted enough heat to keep items warm throughout the meal.

Very small and doesn't seem to keep the bread warm. By the time you wrap it in material, which is what they tell you to do, it doesn't seem to transfer the heat to the bread... Read morePublished 4 months ago by picky shopper
These are ok, but another thing to bother with. Didn't really do much. I keep buns covered with a heavy napkin anyway, so they stay warm.Published 5 months ago by A. Gift For You
