Also on a side note... Fox Farm's Big Bloom is an organic amazing nutrient. I've heard excellent things about their grow big and tiger bloom as well but never tried those.
Buy some fox farm ocean forest soil and you'll be shocked!
I would however go to a store and buy it... Shipping a big bag of potting soil in the mail can be stupid expensive. I paid right at 25$ for a 12 qt bag (3 gallons of soil) .. I would have to drive more than 4 hours to get this soil so my only option was to buy online..
From here on out I will only plant anything in this.. If you were to plant tomatoes in this soil I guarntee you that you would have the best tomatoes you've ever had.
I received a...tomato plant.... for Christmas this year from a buddy of mine. Originally came in a very small pot with some unknown soil, no more than a few leaves. Placed it out in the open with these LED's i was using for a small reef tank (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01AOZXPCA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and she started growing. Since this was, not only my first Tomato Plant, but first plant ever, i had no real idea of what i was doing. Went to the internet and boy can one get sucked into a rabbit hole. Anyway, after much research and after much much much procrastination (guys like seriously, procrastination) i went to several shops around my area and was unable to locate Fox Farm (Home Depot, Loews, Sears, Mom and Pop Stores etc) i came online and found this. 1 click and 2 days later, it arrived
Came safe and sound with no mess inside the box. easy to open, easy to (what do you gardeners say? pour? distribute?) use. Within a few hours, my tomato (which is already 3-ish feet tall) began to strut its stuff! Im talking about leaves were spreading more, it seemed like the entire plant grew some volume to it, not height.
3 cups of RODI water into a 3 gallon Flower Pot and she was off to the races! Water retention also seems very very very good, as i used to water something much smaller every 1-2 days now its more like 3-4 days.
- Miracle Grow Organic
- A local, Austin based organic potting soil that came highly recommended
- Fox Farm Ocean Forest
No question, the Ocean Forest is head and shoulders better than the above two. For comparison sake, I planted an arugula plant in the latter two soils, and the Fox Farm planted arugula exploded into huge leafy plant, leaving the local soil in the dust. That was about two months ago, and it's still more of the same.
Keep in mind, this is A LOT to pay for soil. However, it's a great foundation to start from. This is the kind of soil you put in a pot and then recondition and fertilize for years and years rather than just buy new soil.
Fantastic product overall.
I was a hardcore DWC guy, always believeing it would ALWAYS outperform soil. Until I switched to this stuff.
Ran crops side by side three times, one plant in water and one in FoxFarm Ocean Forest (with 5 gal smart pots, Great White, a little perlite, mixed with 25% FoxFarm Happy Frog so it wouldn't be too "hot" a soil, since I put seeds in starter plugs and they go RIGHT into the dirt, FF Big Bloom after 4 weeks - nice not to have to feed for a month, just water!!).
The Ocean Forest didn't just "keep up". It outperformed both in vegetative growth and in flowering/fruiting. I was stunned and quite in disbelief (hence the reason for 3 tests).
Yes, it is markedly more expensive to buy through Amazon because of the weight. I'm in poor health, and it was AWESOME to just have it brought to my door. Definitely worth the money.
