The man is Captain Steg de Coeur, of the Imperial Intelligence Agency, astronavigator, military shuttle pilot - and some hundred plus years out of his time. He recovers, physically, thanks to the care of the staff, but his memory is, at best, patchy and, unable to explain his presence or strange uniform, is tried, convicted and sentenced to death as a spy - and this is just the beginning of this action packed, well written story. The writing is detailed and descriptive, and filled with a large cast of characters, including the murderous Xesset, a sinister priestess, the beautiful and talented Fain and an alien octopus named Monty (and his four wives). And lots of humans, many not quite as well meaning as they should be. Remarkably, the author is able to breath life into all of his more prominent protagonists and the dialogue feels very real as well as often having touches of humour.
And did I mention action packed?
This is the second book in a trilogy and, although I have not read the first of this series, it didn't matter. My thanks to Book Review 22 for the gift of Fracture Lines. It was an enjoyable read and I will almost certainly be looking out for the final story to continue the adventures with Steg

5 out of 5 stars
The story of Fracture Lines (The Glass Complex Book 2) by John Hindmarsh is a Science Fiction/Space Marine/Military book. Steg de Coeur is severely wounded and is transported to an Imperial hospital starship. His physical wounds heal, however he has lost his memory and is unable to give an accounting of his presence on board the starship. Charged with spying and sentenced to death. He escapes the prison and becomes a potential mercenary officer. Will he be able to contend with betrayal and divided loyalties while he tries to regain his memories?
What a story! I came into this series with this book and I can’t wait to read book 1 and then book 3. This is a fast paced sci-fi story that will have your head being whiplashed as you try to read quickly to find out what happens next. The characters and storyline is awesome and addictive. You’ll be wanting to read long into the night to finish. The best part of any science fiction story is the planets and aliens that are created. If you don’t have enough details or just give the bare basics, then readers could get frustrated. Don’t worry about that with this book. Attention to detail in both story and characters is not lacking and you find yourself wishing to visit at least some places. The others you may want to avoid.
If you love science fiction with plenty of action, this is the book for you. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book. My review is an honest one.
