As usual, you will get an honest and poignant view inside a marriage to the wrong person, and then looking at it with retrospect advantage. That's what I love about Ms. Perlin's series. They are packed full of painful life lessons and learning the hard way. Anyone listening can consider the clear warnings she delivers, while moving through their own lives. I think this entire series will help prevent a lot of people from making the same mistakes.
While reading, I become so engrossed it's like I'm actually living their stories. Brenda takes you along for the ride so pay attention to what she so elegantly teaches us!
I am a huge fan of Brenda Perlin and her books, so after reading the first two books in this series my hopes were high when starting to read the finale part of Bo and Brooklyn's love story. I have to say that I absolutely loved this book!
The author has a talent of bringing the story live and even if the subject may be delicate to some, Brenda Perlin has managed to handle it with care, even objectively at times when I wanted to scream to Ruth's face some nasty words. I loved the point of view. The man behind the story sort of stepped out and became more real than in the first two books. I felt Bo and Brooklyn's struggle, the heavy weight of their past, and the difficulty of starting something new when there were rocks being thrown on their way in every turn.
However true love is strong, and no amount of raging hags can stomp it down. I think there are a lesson, loud and clear, in this story. Think twice before judging anyone!
Definitely a must read!!!
Brenda Perlin is a clear and concise storyteller. With broad brush strokes, she takes what should be a confused muddle and captures the essence of an unraveled relationship. Hell hath no fury when the wife who sees herself wronged refuses to let go until she has extracted every last pound of flesh imaginable. One more divorcee is moved only by her own small-minded recalcitrance. The legal system and the lawyers are the caldron, but pure pique is the catalyst and undiluted self- absorption is the engine. This hell bound train halts not with a bang but a whimper as its sputters to a remorseless and fruitless stop having crossed its own little corner of scorched earth. Bo, the narrator comes to a true epiphany when he realizes that today’s world of divorce tells a tale more idiotic than anything either Shakespeare or Faulkner ever imagined. Fractured Vows iterates the notion that sound and fury signify nothing. Bo knows all you need is love. He has gained the true possibility of happily-ever-after but not without being taken for a wicked ride.
Brenda Perlin does it all with aplomb and style. First Brooklyn; now Bo. The twice told tale is worth the full quantum of perspective which the author is able to command as her second protagonist sees and seizes it all from his separate vantage as he travels a path to reach the point of intersection where two wanderers finally, at long last, find true love. Even with all the bumps and wrong turns, life is more than hope.
