The book is set out in episodes and each one involves Charlie in a different murder investigation. His new chief warns him not to look into his own case and there are many who don’t believe in his innocence. The only thing that kept Charlie sane in prison, was working through everything that had happened and to work out in his mind, who had actually killed his partner and what he would do once he got out!
Different murders take place in each of the six episodes in this first season of Hardwick – Framed. You get to follow Charlie and his new partner, who has her own troubled past and has been set to watching Charlie and reporting if he isn’t coping. They are kept busy with lots of cases, from a serial killer baiting the police with photos of his victims, to a local politician, a body found in a wall, a high school sweetheart and even a scientist found frozen in her own cryotherapy pod.
The only down side for me was that while each episode told you the parts of the investigation in detail, the ending to each case was very simply done. It seemed just a little too easy – I don’t want to give away anything – so will leave other readers to see what they think.
Even with that, I really enjoyed the stories. They moved at a good pace and gave you plenty to think about. There is also a good side story going on at the same time, with Charlie trying to work out who framed him and why and also who actually killed his partner. I will definitely be looking out for more books from this author.
As the book is split into episodes, you can read one at a time, or like me, keep reading to get to the end of the book and see what happens to Charlie and what he can find out, while also dealing with loads of interesting homicide cases. I was lucky to be given an ARC copy of this book by the author and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
This is a great series of six episodes full of mystery and
suspense. I highly recommend this author's writing.
Charlie Hardwick is a great character. I am looking
forward to Season 2.
