However, as I continued to read and understand, I loved this guide more and more. I'm not an avid reader and like to "get to the point" when researching. At first I skipped the personal accounts and read straight to the suggestions. But then, as I understood the organization of this guide, I became more curious as to why these places were being suggested as the recommendations captured were not always the same as you would expect from a "typical" guidebook. I lived in France for 2.5 years and would say that I truly "lived and experienced the single Parisian life". I would've loved to have had this as a reference to get more out of the experience as I traveled throughout France.
I found myself rereading many passages to imagine if I had revelled in those same experiences as some of the locals had suggested. I find myself excited to return soon to France to relive some of the best moments, and have new ones using this guide as a reference. For a deeper look into the history and feel of life in France, definitely live and experience it as the locals and implanted expats have as were expressed in this guide. It truly captures the French appreciation of architecture, living, and eating!
A while back, I spent about a year in Normandy, and during that time I had a chance to travel to many other regions of France as well. I only wish I’d had this book! I really made my time in France count, yet I’m amazed at the things I managed not to discover on my own. I look forward to exploring a new layer of my favorite haunts on my next trip, thanks to the tips and resources provided. I especially liked the inclusion of useful websites like On Va Sortir, which give opportunities to connect with local people and events. I look forward to exploring the other books in the 100 Locals series as well.
