If nothing else i believe people should read this book so that they learn the truth of this character, which has been a lie.

The beginning is slow and the author drifts off onto topics away from what is interesting or important at times. The main character is detestable. But in total the book is good and engaging.

I was anxious to see how it ends. I found the ending disappointing, but my husband enjoyed it for not being expected.

It's not a long book, but it could be a great deal shorter with decent editing.

This is nothing like any Frankenstein movie out there. The monster is very complex with all the feelings and compassions and violence of human nature. We all have some Dr. and some monster in us. After all these years, this story is still relevant. Shelley can really tell a story. Loved it.

Just finished _Frankenstein_ by Mary Shelley, which I read bit by bit with a student. I had known about the general idea because it permeates popular culture, film, and television and knew that it was a famous work, but it hasn’t really aged well for me. I found the concept to be intriguing, but so much of the story focused on the main character’s self-pity and selfishness, that it was hard to care about the characters, and the pace seemed uneven. At one point, my student even said: “If someone doesn’t die soon, I don’t know what I’m going to do!” I was also surprised by how flat and dull the female characters were considering the author’s feminist pedigree. I honor the fact that it is an early example of science fiction and it allowed us to wrestle with some important moral questions. I’m glad I read it, but I don’t think I’ll be revisiting it any time soon.
