I dont know if all walnut media has this problem or not because this is my first time purchasing it but I received a bag of bugs. Yes, BUGS! This was a real surprise as I opened the shipping box and started into the plastic bag of crushed walnut media I was immediately greeted by some very small little bugs that somehow managed to escape the tightly zip tied plastic bag containing the media. One was actually squeezed in the twisted plastic bag trapped by the zip tie. Hoping this was merely an outside the bag problem was quickly dissolved as I opened the bag to find even more little critters trying to escape or burrow deeper into the walnut media, whatever it took to get away from me. These bugs are fairly small and about the size of a red ant. Most people probably wouldnt notice at first unless you had a dozen or so trying to flee all at the same time. Buyer beware and take note as not to open on the deck of a carpeted boat like I did. Just knowing I opened a bag o bugs on my boat I find myself scratching and itching more now than ever when on the lake and using the heck out of bug spray even if there are no bugs in site....
I did give this walbug media a try and figure it does alright I guess, like I said before its my first time...
