This is an OK set. We've had it for 4-5 years now and play a handful of times every summer. The wood is very light but that's pretty standard. The end caps of the mallets have held up fairly well with only a couple starting to tear. One of the mallet handles broke out of the head - there are these cheap plastic pieces attached to the handles with screw threads on them, rather than the threads being in the actual wood. So the little plastic piece broke and the handle then could not screw into the head. I used this as an opportunity to reinforce all of the mallets as this plastic piece was bound to fail on all of them eventually. So I drilled some pilot holes and put a screw through the bottom of each mallet head into the handle, and glued each one with Stick Ass Glue. Now they're all completely secure.
Anyway, the balls are fine - standard plastic croquet balls that can take a beating. The wickets are exactly the same as every other set I've ever had - white painted wire.
So this isn't bad, but the quality isn't exactly inspiring. It's lasted better than I thought it would. THis is probably comparable to every set in this general price range.

This set is so poorly constructed that when a ball is hit with normal force, the mallet handles break. Some of the mallets would not even screw together. Read morePublished 13 months ago by J. E. Scalise
This is a xmas gift so I am hoping that the person on the receiving end likes it - we'll see. . . . . . .Published on December 19, 2013 by Tina
The mallets are not heavy or dense enough for proper weight to make contact with ball when striking. The wickets are all a little thin and should have more strength.Published on October 14, 2013 by Richard Sadis
This is a nice set for the kids to use as well as the adults. I'll see if anyone is really interested in playing before spending a lot of money so this was a good choice.Published on July 21, 2013 by Amazon Customer
I knew the balls were poly but I think they are to heavy and demand a hard hit to go any distance. My original set had wooden balls and they are lighter in wieght. Read morePublished on May 22, 2013 by Irvin Bagley
