This was a great family gift and is a favorite of our kids during warmer months. We usually bring this along on family campouts, as well.

The set includes:
Six wood mallets with a chestnut (dark wood) finish
Six matching colored balls to match
Two 18” colorful wooden stakes
Nine steel wickets
A carry bag

The bag makes it easy to store and transport, but admittedly, it is the weakest link of the package. The balls, mallets, stakes, and wickets have all withstood lots of abuse and show little sign of wear.

I purchased the Intermediate Set, but the classic set comes with larger mallets, longer stakes, and bent wooden wickets. I'm average height and our youngest player is 6 year old and the mallets are comfortable for both of us and everyone in between. I don't think you can go wrong with this set.

Love the look of the set. The wickets and posts are great. However, the balls are a weak plastic and can gouge. I had a family gathering and used the set for 1 day and almost all balls have gouges/dents in them.

Even more sad is the mallet connection. Unlike others we had no issues screwing the mallets in. However, the manufactured connection between the mallet head and metal in lay is connected with WAY too short of screws which causes them to fail. See photos. After the first day I have one mallet that is broken at that connection and two others that are loosening up and will most likely break soon.

Not a cheapskate but this is an expensive set for 1 day of play shelf life.

My family bought the Intermediate set for me for Father's Day - as a kid I grew up playing croquet with a set we had for many years.

This set appears to have smaller croquet balls etc. Within the first round, one of the white plastic end pads on the mallets split on the side, by the 3rd game another started. The balls we used seem to be getting gouges with only minor contact - no one has even tried to send the balls off after contact as we did when I was a kid, so that's concerning.

Finally, at the end of the 3rd game, my 9 year old daughter started her way back from the far post. She has a tough time getting enough power to move the ball any distance at all. When she hit the post right at the bottom near the ground to send her ball through the first two wickets, the post broke in half 6 or 8 inches up the shaft. When I looked at the other post I see it has several splits starting going up along the length of the shaft.

Again: 3 games in, with very light and non-aggressive use.
This set has no resilience - I'm going to initiate a return and try something different.

After using this set at least 3 times a week so far this summer (about 48 games, maybe more), I declare without a doubt these are some of the most solid, well-made mallets you will find. And the length of the handle is perfect for adults and teenagers. My parents bought a cheaper set and their too short mallets starting breaking within 7 uses of the croquet set (the balls are well-made though). The mallets in this set I am reviewing are made of hardwood, not pine. ONE BIG CON: Last week, two of the balls starting developing cracks in them, and one of them was mine...I smacked it really hard and the whole ball exploded into a hundred clay pieces (inside balls are hard packed clay material). The other ball is distorted and looks like an egg...probably ready to crack any minute. 4 of the balls are still fine at this point, but lots of dents in them. Finding decently priced replacement croquet balls is not easy I discovered, so we are using the balls from my parents' set (since they can't use the mallets, it's a good arrangement).

I am going to review this for the product not the game itself. (we are having an EXTREMELY fun time using this for the game as a family and I think everyone should own a croquet set)

Now this product - first - as everyone seems to be saying - the first time I swung at a ball - the white pieces were flying. We still play with the wood - but you know this is chipping up the balls. I grew up with a set that had rubber ends and was rather sad to see our $30 new toy (which to me as a single mother is not cheap) looking like it had been used and abused for years. I take pride in the things we own and this is not a happy situation. If I had not been playing the game with my kids - I am sure someone would have gotten a lecture on treating the toys with respect. Never would I have assumed it could break with the lightest of hits.

Now the bag - it comes with a case. That's nice. But what would be really nice is if everything fit into the bag while assembled. If you put the ends on the mallets they no longer fit into the case. I do not want my kids assembling them and taking them apart each time. That would be a nightmare and strip the wood in no time. So we leave one end unzipped and they stick out the top like a golf bag.

We are having a GREAT time playing this. At least 2-4 times a day each day this week! It is spring and this is a perfect game to get us outside together and we have something to do in our suburban smaller sized yard. However... this product is not great. I really wanted it to be.

This is not a croquet set, it is a pint size version of a regulation set. The mallets and balls are about 2/3 the size of an official croquet set. I have to cut my grass as low as my lawnmower will cut to get the proper roll of regulation size balls struck by regulation size mallets and am certain this set would make it impossible to play the game as it is intended to be played on lawn grass.

When you spend $35 for something with a price range of $35 -$200, you should expect there is something wrong - dumb me.

Seems to be very sturdy and we play rough, so we will definitely put it to the test. It has survived a few rounds so far with no dents or scratches.

Loved the look, but the stand does no function well. It does not roll well at all. The makers are difficult to get into place. The stand was broken in arrival, not packed well. My husband modified the stand after the repair work. It works a bit better, but overall not pleased with it. Still love the look, i wish it worked better. FYI, if you order one, allow 3 months before you use it. If it arrives broken, the replacement may not arrive in time. We ordered in plenty time for our event, but the replacement for the broken one would have arrived a month later.

We bought the intermediate set. Worked just great. No problems with anything. Played multiple games and it was awesome.

Worked great! I know some customers were not happy with the quality, but the ones we received seem to be holding up well. It seems like a good quality set for the money, and there are way too many out there to pick from.
