Just a comment. I do own one of these. Instructions. This item was originally sold on FredandFriends. The item was marketed as DreamLights. Magical Lights to Brighten Your Night. No sign of fireflies there anywhere. As for the rest or most of the less than 4 star comments, having had read the instructions might have educated you before marking down a product that requires education to use. It is not a "firefly" jar. It is not "all-weather". It sometimes requires maintenance. If there is any fault, it is the lister for using the word firefly in the description. The other complaints seem to be mostly user error (not reading the instructions, not selecting the switches properly, etc).

Cons:
Fireflys are yellow when they light up at night, these lights are white though accurately depicted in the picture. Also, the lights wink on and off much more slowly than real fireflys. Lastly, like most solar lanterns this product is unsuited to leave outside for extended periods. It will rust and the jar will fill with water. I kept it in the front window for months and it was fine then it deteriorated to junk within a month of displaying it outdoors.

Still an excellent product.

This light works great. It has little lights that move around inside and really look like a jar of fireflies. It is bring enough to illuminate my picnic table with a soft glow. It lasts late into the night and sometimes is still going in the morning. One thing to watch for is condensation in humid areas. I have never had trouble with rain getting in, but when I took it to the gulf coast it got about 1/4 inch of water in the bottom from condensation. It was easy enough to empty it. I really love my firefly light!

I made a swamp themed bedroom for my 4 year old son and thought this would be a great addition. I paid $25 and was excited as well. That first night I knew that this might have been a mistake. The solar function on this light is terrible. You can charge it all day long only to find out that is lasts only 20 minutes before going out. The manual says you should never really need to replace the rechargeable batteries. I think that is true because this thing will be in the trash well before I would buy new rechargeable batteries. As a work around for the solar there is a battery option, which works but plan on having a lot of batteries handy. This things goes through them in a couple of days. Lastly there is a shake option to have the lights come on that does not work. I don't use it for that so it doesn't matter to me. I want to get rid of it but know my son is too attached to it. Overall a terrible product. Look for other options and do not buy this waste of money.

My son bought me one of these for Christmas, and I loved it so much I had to buy another one. This is perfect for relaxation at night... plug in some good "mood music" and drift off to sleep...
I also love that it can be charged by EITHER solar power or battery. I live in the Pacific Northwest, where we rarely get any sunshine, especially in the winter, so this works great! The only drawback... the battery doesn't last for more than a few nights at a time, so I need to use it sparingly.
The ad for this is slightly incorrect in that you only need ONE AA battery, not two... there is a rechargeable battery also included, but according to the user guide, should rarely if ever need changing.
All in all, I am very happy with this!!!

Bought two of these as Christmas gifts, one for each niece. Out of their respective boxes, one worked, one didn't. That made for a lousy gift giving experience, and probably not a great gift receiving experience, either. I ordered another and sent the defective one back. Then, the other original one went on the fritz, still would light but only using the sensor mode (whereas it should be possible to use the "on" mode to force the lights on even even it's surroundings aren't completely dark). Generally, a wonderful idea with major problems in its execution.

This product is lovely and makes a beautiful accent light at night-time.... but it really doesn't work as a solar powered light. You will have to use actual batteries if you want this to give you light for more than 30 seconds. I'm not exaggerating; an entire day of charging this baby in direct sunlight will give you about 30 seconds to 2 minutes of solar-charged internal battery life. Then, you'll have to switch to battery power. So, I would only buy this if you are okay about using this as a battery powered light.

I took stars off of my review because I think the product description is misleading in regards to it's use with the solar panel/solar-charged battery. But, if I had to review it as a regular battery powered light source, it's quite nice! The "fireflies" flit around inside the lovely frosted glass jar and it looks very magical and pretty.
