Reads like an action movie

This book is the true story of the Animal Liberation Front in the 90's. Full history of how it started and it talks a little bit about why the founder of the American ALF left the movement. This book reads like an action movie. It has very detailed descriptions of the state that the animals were in when rescued and details about tactics the labs would use to try and win the court cases. This book inspires me to be a better stricter vegan. It is such an action packed book that I read it all in one day (off work of course.). Read this book, it will move you!

Compelling Stories About Our Fellow Sentient Creatures

This pioneer of the animal liberation movement provides a compelling perspective that should not be lost on anyone with a warm heart. Though people may quibble with some of Ms. Newkirk's and PETA's provocative public campaigns, the sincerity of her concern for our fellow sentient beings, and the dogged devotion that she has brought to her life's work on their behalf, have earned her the respect of all who have even a modicum of concern for animals. Her poignant stores of animal rescue will certainly stir up feelings and, more importantly, will inform about the suffering that these innocent creatures endure. Kudos to Ms. Newkirk for her work and for a terrific read!

Required Reading

Anyone who claims to love animals should read this book. I'm not usually a fan of the fiction-style narrative, but the content is absolutely incredible, and inspirational. Some parts are painfully graphic, but that is part of the deal when you read about animal cruelty. While I don't necessarily advocate violence or vandalism, I think the ALF made great strides for animal rights at a time when nobody else really cared.

I am an animal rights activist, and this is a staple in my library of relevant literature. I would also recommend Karen Dawn's Thanking the Monkey and, of course, Peter Singer's Animal Liberation. Those are just a few titles to get you started, but there are plenty of other great resources for anyone interested in learning more about the animal rights movement and how you can help. Ingrid herself founded PETA in 1980 after being inspired by Peter Singer's book. Amazon has the latest edition, which has new updates and information as well.

One of my favorite books!

I've read a lot of books about animals and the animal rights movement, and Free the Animals is one of my favorites. It's inspirational and engaging and it leaves you feeling as if you can do something to help animals. Not everyone will go to the same lengths to help animals, but even simple actions--like buying cruelty-free products or choosing meatless meals--can help spare animals from pain and suffering. Free the Animals is entertaining and informative both for people who are just learning about animal issues, as well as those who've been involved in the animal protection movement for a long time. I highly recommend it to everyone.

ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL!!!!

Ingrid Newkirk is a hero, a genious, and a revolutionary. God bless her in every way for everything she has done for animals.

The book is absolutely wonderful...I finished it in 3 days!!! The only reason I put it down is because my eyes started to hurt after reading for 2 hours. This book stole my heart and encouraged me to do what I have been doing to protect animals (im a vegan and an animal advocate).

This book is full of action, emotion, relates to real life, and it will make you cry as well as sigh of relief every time you read about ALF's success at the end of each chapter.

It is a masterpiece that has painted beauty of our fellow non-humans and ugliness our own species who have inflicted such cruelties upon innocent animals. It is a masterpeice that paints courage and strength, conviction and determination of those who have put their own lives in danger to selflessly help those who need our help the most.

ITS A MUST READ!!! IT IS WORTH EVERY SINGLE PENNY SPENT!!! YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO PUT IT DOWN!!! Please be kind to animals and protect them by any means necessary. God Bless You All!!!

Incredible True Story

I can't even begin to explain how much i was moved by this true story of an animal rights activist and her devotion to the rescue of tortured animals. Written by Ingrid Newkirk,the President of PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), this book is the best account of the trials and tribulations of the Animal Liberation Front to date.
For those of you who don't know, the Animal Liberation Front is a group of animal rights activists who believe in direct action as opposed to protests and other grassroots activities. They are also second after the KKK on the governments list of domestic terrorists. Terrorists? Definitely not, as in their history they have never hurt one person. This in stark contrast to the people they're up against, who torture and kill hundreds of thousands of animals every year.
I guarantee those of you who claim to be animal lovers will get your money's worth with this one. Great book.
