Synopsis: Judge Andrew Napolitano, a constitutional scholar and former NJ Superior Court Justice, discusses ways that the government is infringing on the freedoms given to us by our Founding Fathers through the Constitution of the United States.

My rating: I wish I could give it more than 5 stars!

My opinion: OK..I am a bit biased, but I love Judge Andrew Napolitano. Otherwise I try to keep this blog out of the political zone. But, Judge Andrew Napolitano has a way of coming in with a "no nonsense", take no prisoners, say it outright, no sugar coating manner about him. Furthermore, he doesn't hold back political punches at either party who are both guilty and feel justification at using the Constitution to further their own political ambitions versus the protection that it was developed as a way to protect Americans from their government.

On that note, I believe I have read every book of Judge Napolitano's. His typical writing style is very dry and academic in its' approach which makes for very long, but necessary reading. This was not the case with this book. He was much lighter in his writing style. Almost as though he did a 180 degree turn in his writing style! It was to the point that I thought it might be written for high school or early collegiate reading. As I delved in deeper to the book, it was evident that this was not the case. In my opinion, this is a must read for every American. Furthermore, as Judge Napolitano is a staunch Libertarian, I think that this is a book that individuals from every political party known to the United States will be able to take something from.

On a final note, this was not a huge book. I think it was less than 150 pages. The book flowed like water due to the Judge's concise style of writing though.

This little book (and at 4.5 X 6.5" it is a compact book) gave me the immediate impression of being an inspirational even spiritual kind of edition. It is tightly bound, printed on high gloss paper, with large page headers and pictures of patriotic iconography in the open spaces throughout (things like the lettering of the Constitution, the presidential carvings on Mt Rushmore, the Statue of Liberty and DC Capitol rotunda etc...), chapter headings with flowery font and even a front page with a space to write who it is "Presented to", "From". In short it looks like a prayer book, and in a way it is; a prayer to the principles of liberty and private rights that this nation was founded on. This may sound a bit corny but its really not.

The contents are, in Judge Napolitano's consistent style, direct and to the point, concise and simple yet comprehensive. He begins with short introductory chapters on "Constitutional Basics", and "Natural Rights vs Positivism - balancing state with federal government", and then spends a bit more time on "The Declaration of Independence and our Founding Fathers - how far we have strayed". The bulk of the book is next with "Rights and Freedoms that are being violated", covered in 14 parts (such as "the right to own property"), in a Q & A format. Finally he sums it all up with a conclusion and gives an appendix of the text of the Constitution and it's Amendments.

The introductory chapters are an essential review of basic history which sadly most American's seem ignorant of these days. The section on the rights and freedoms being violated is a great collection of specific issues that are at the heart of both American history and current events and controversies.

Napolitano is one of the few in the main stream media who actually has the courage to say what needs to and with no sensors and will attack anyone who stands in the way of liberty. Hope he keeps it up and glad to support him

I find Judge Napolitano's style easy to read and understand. This book, by the title, may be confused with a "Frequently Asked Questions" format but it is arranged by topics of Napolitano's choosing. He makes convincing use of past court decisions to illustrate how the government (all three branches) has gradually eroded the "natural" freedoms we should all be exercising. What he demonstrates through his examples and explanations may shatter some accepted beliefs we have about some of our past leaders and the negative impact they've had on our way of life and politics. If you are someone who believes that government is the solution to our problems and will take care of us, you may have some doubts after reading this book. Judge Napolitano doesn't use many past court decissions to show that some of our "natural" rights have been preserved. Book is short and each topic takes only one or two pages so it can be read in one sitting or spread out over time.

How has our country changed over the years? Did the writers of the constitution envision the country we have today? What has happened to our freedoms?

Andrew P. Napolitano has written a book to show us what the constitution says and means. Politicians today have never even read it, but they constantly pass laws that are diametrically opposed to it.

We have a nation ran buy Bureaucrats who believe it is their job to tell us what to do in every area of our lives. They believe that we aren't smart enough to run our own lives so they need to pass laws for our own good.

The Constitution and amendments give us a list of rights the government and each citizen has.

The Left and even some on the Right seem to think the government should be our nanny. But the government has no constitutional right to force us to buy things like health insurance according to Obama-care. They have no right to tell us were to live or what we do with our own property. What right does the government have to regulate the price of milk? Why would they even want too? How can the government pass laws against owning guns when we have a RIGHT to bear arms.

Napolitano discusses many things like this in this small book. It is in a question and answer format. It takes some pretty deep subjects and explains them so they are accessible to the average reader. He shows how the supreme court has over turned our law making process, by making legislating from the bench. These are things forbidden in the constitution.

Even though it is easy to read, it does not skimp on content.

I highly recommend this book. It is a great read.

I give it 5 out of 5 stars.
