Some ladies at my church decided to do a group with this book when I was at the end of my rope and completely hopeless. What a God given blessing the woman is who wrote this! I am starting to feel hope and that I can do this! Towanda! The issues isn't food. It's me!
This book is not really about food but our unhealthy relationship with food! It helps us to break free from the bondage and idols of food to really focus on a relationship with God to meet the emotional needs that food has fulfilled for us! Her amazing in depth study of the Word brings truth and freedom! Really this could be a study of any addictive thing in our life.
If you are not a believer this will likely not bet helpful. However, if you have tried everything to lose weight (and don't have a medical condition to explain it) and you feel hopeless... then this is the book for you! It will renew your mind on how to view food and put God back on the throne where food used to be!
It was not what I expected AND it was very different than anything I'd done. Other diets say "Don't believe the lies you tell yourself". Easier said than done. But Barb's book explains why and how to stop believing these lies. I was also skeptical about "Freedom", how many times before had I heard that? Now I realize I was thinking of man's definition of freedom, not God's.
The work you do with this bible study makes sense, touches your heart and teaches you to see what God truly wants from you. Man wants you thin, God just wants you. My desire for food decreases as my love for God increases. That my friend is true freedom. Freedom that only God can give. I know I will become smaller in size doing this, BUT that is not even my goal anymore. My goal is to replace all of the lies that I believed with God's truth. My goal is to develop Godly boundaries in my life rather than the excesses that man promotes. I can be happy with smaller amounts of food at meals because super size meals do not make my life better, they make it worse.
Barb doesn't tell you to limit your meals. God will help you figure out what works best for you. I do limit my meals in the same way Barb does just because it works for me.
If you were like I was, desperate, this book is for you. Because we all are desperate for God.
