This book spotlights voices of the South Africans themselves who suffered and fought under apartheid. Their voices are invaluable and worth hearing!!!!! I'm aghast that anyone should think otherwise. I found the author’s writing perfectly adequate and clear, but his style is somewhat irrelevant when the focus of the book is the quotes from Africans themselves across the spectrum. What he does explain, in plain facts and history, is clear, concise and encompassing. This book was extremely informative and will be eye-opening for anyone who thought apartheid was something similar to segregation in the American South. It was so horrifically much more. The voices documented herein are often stunning in their profound eloquence, insight, grace and prescience. I’m grateful to have read this book and gained a greater understanding.
