As part of signup (perhaps a different promotion), I had to take steps to downgrade my service, such as by removing a $3.99 "data roll-over" service/add-on. The user interface to do so is confusing, asking you multiple times whether you really want to deactivate that add-on service, requiring you to log in again, and presenting your options in a way that makes it easy to accidentally keep that add-on. I don't have screenshots, but I'm pretty sure the cancellation process included a giant "Cancel" button (bigger than any other option), that meant you are cancelling your "request to cancel" (not deactivating/cancelling the add-on itself). You have to look harder to find a tinier link that actually will accomplish the add-on's deactivation..
It's the kind of friction or "gotcha" user experience that you might expect from free or cheap services, but it does not garner trust, and makes it hard to recommend Freedompop's service.
Needless to say, we gave up. My sons decided to just go with a different company. So basically, we wasted $10 bucks on two sim cards that did not work for us at all.
Excellent choice if you want to give kids a base minimum plan and then provide additional service on an ala cart basis.
