>I am an independant reviewer. This book is the 4th in the Kindred Tales series and ends in an HEA. Ky is a Touch Kindred captured while on a search mission. He is mistreated and kept in a jail cell. Dani is the Princess of the Realm. She has a hard time fitting into a society that does not place any value upon women. She is not allowed an opinion or freedom to better herself. I love how Dani is not the type to lay back and take the abuse. She secretly finds passages around the castle to eavesdrop and learn about the political climate of the time. She also finds the prisoner and is instantly attracted to him. She gives him first aid when he is whipped and food and water when he is starved.
>Ky is an interesting character. He could easily escape his capture and torture using his Touch senses. He has made a vow to only use his Touch sense for good and never evil. He breaks that vow when Dani is in danger. This book is basically a view into what a planet without equality is like.
>This book is appropriate for an adult audience. There is a scene with Dani and Ky that has questionable consent (on Ky’s part). I am giving the story 5 stars. I love seeing previous characters and the story line is engaging.
Ky gives the impression that he is on the shallow end of the Kindred gene pool - getting captured, leaving a defenseless female alone, going on about lack of food and water, abandoning a mate. Ky just seemed "off" to me. Dani at least had a head on her shoulders and would have made a great ruler, if she had been born a male (due to her planets viewpoints on women), but trying to rape someone does not make for a good person (even though she was trying to protect herself from an evil little man).
The story had so much potential but for me the only redeeming light was the lead up to Healing the Broken (which is a fantastic story and highly recommened).
I'm more excited about the next story as it promises to be exciting and more action filled hopefully. I also hope Sarah gets some courage and spunk to finally be her own person free from what seems to be a cult.
Freeing the prisoner was another solid story, with a happily ever after :)
Dani hears about the big kindred and their beliefs especially the one about women. She sneaks in to learn more about him and that all it takes for the bond to form. The fire ignites between them and some how through some excellent action adventure they rescue each other and bond for all eternity. Great read
