The Freestyle Libre Sensor applicator attaches the sensor to the user's skin using a small sheet of double-sided adhesive. It is supposed to remain in place for 14 days, and then the user must peel if off the skin by hand before applying a new sensor. On several occasions, a sensor became partially or completely detached prematurely. The obvious reasons appeared to be: excessive sweat from working outdoors in South Texas summer heat; snagging on clothes or a door or window frame and becaming partially detached; or the adhesive presumably just didn't last the 14 days and started to separate. I'm on about my fourth sensor using the Protective Activity Shield ("Libre Shield" is printed on the strap), and I have had no more of these issues. The shield consists of an elastic cloth band with a sliding round plastic cover that fits snugly over the sensor, that the user wraps around their arm and sensor after the sensor has been applied. The ends of the band come together with a velcro buckle that can be adjusted for comfort. The skin side of the band has an anti-slip pattern of rubber-like material applied to it that keeps it in place. I have been wearing the Libre Shield 24/7, including in the shower, and only take it off when switching sensors.

Unfortunately I am unable to truly give a review on the performance of the product, but I can tell you that if you have arms that are on the larger side I would pass on this and go with the stickers/patches. This does have some stretch to it, but not enough for me. Bummer.

I tried using this thing on my Freestyle Libre sensor for several days in lieu of my regular sports sticker patch. I really couldn't find a scenario where this is any better than just the bare Libre sensor.

From a protection standpoint, it doesn't really do much to keep the sensor from snagging on door frames or other corners that might rip the sensor off. I would go so far as to say it actually increases the likelihood of a snag since you now have a band around your arm that any part can snag on and rip the sensor away with it. I felt like it was more fragile with the band on than with it off.

Waterproof? No... there's no seal against your skin, so it's not going to provide any additional water ingress protection than the adhesive on the device already provides.

Bump protection? I guess it might save it from a bump or two, but the sensor is already durable in that department and doesn't really need that kind of protection.

While it can look cooler than the patch, it depends on where you put the sensor on your arm. If the sensor is placed too high up, the band won't stay in place. On my first sensor, I had it placed down lower and the band would stay in place ok. On my second sensor, I placed it a bit higher and the band would keep sliding off my arm when I raised it, and I was concerned that it would pull the sensor off with it.

This is really kind of a pointless accessory that doesn't add anything value-wise to wearing your CGM and it causes more problems than it solves (which is basically no problems solved).

In my situation, the fastener just makes it through the loop. If the circumference of my arm was any larger, I would not be comfortably attach the velcro hooks tab to the fabric of the armband. The armband needs to be about 7.5 cm (3 inches) longer. So a slightly longer armband is essential, especially for those with a larger upper arm size. Otherwise, the unit protects against dislodgement of the Libre sensor.
