This book, like the other two in the series, are written in the first person. We see everything from Laney's point of view as she tries to assume responsibility for everyone and everything. She is plagued by guilt, and tries to avoid attachments in order to prevent herself from emotional trauma. Because of this, she is the perfect target for the government's horrible plans. The entire trilogy is fascinating, because most post-apocalyptic novels introduce a world that has recovered from the ravages of the destruction of civilization and the environment. Instead, this one begins right when disaster strikes, and the characters have to figure out the new rules of the world together. The pace of the book is quick, with constant action and little to no exposition, since we already understand the world and the characters.
I volunteered to review an ARC of this novel.
This is the third book in the series and I loved this storyline, so very imaginative and full of so much action and adventure that you really are kept on your toes the whole way through. This story starts where the last one finished so readers definitely need to read the first two books to understand what is happening in this book. The author writes in such a way that draws you into the world that she has created, this is down to the setting of the book with the descriptions of the world and the characters within it. The storyline definitely makes this a must read that you will find yourself obsessively turning the pages to find out what Secrets the next chapter holds!!!
You do meet new characters in this book as well as new ones. In this book you just learn more and more about the characters, following their lives and seeing into them, seeing who they really are and what their motivations are.
I adored this book that really deserves my 5* rating and I can't recommend this book highly enough!!!
Laney and her friends have finally reached the eastern states. They are now driving through ice storms. They make it to a farmhouse after being spotted by a helicopter from the government that is looking for them. They finally get to NYC and decide that they will go their separate ways once they have reached Times Square. Laney, Alana, and Jerome all head to the Holiday Inn in NYC to look for Laney's Dad. Tony and Mina were headed to Maine. Gina, Christina, and Jasmine were headed to Florida.
I don't want to go into too much details about the rest of the book b/c I don't want to ruin it for anyone that wants to read the book. Holly did an excellent job of wrapping up the book and giving closure for it's characters. I really enjoyed this series. This is one of my favorite genre of books and Holly did a great job of writing this series. At a few points, I had trouble putting the book down b/c I had to find out how things turned out. I really enjoyed this series!!
