As other reviewers have noted, this is slanted more to the shabby chic -- loose slipcovers, chipped paint, etc. If this isn't your style then this book isn't for you either. I see nothing intrinsically French about slipcovers and chipped paint -- so to me the book doesn't live up to its title.

I knew I would love this book the minute I opened the cover and saw the pink painted chest. It is a beautiful book, full of fresh ideas. One example: use music stands at varying heights to display art books (or any books for that matter!) Or how about draping a concrete angel statue in fake pearls? Even fake ones look like a million bucks used this way. Page after page of great ideas! It's got me thinking how to make simple changes in my own home that will be different and fun. If a book can get you thinking how to work with what you already have in new, interesting ways, it's worth every penny.

I met Carolyn Westbrook over the weekend at the Country Living Fair in Atlanta. She was so engaging, warm and funny. We had never met, yet it felt like I was talking to a long, lost friend. I purchased her newest book and it is divine! I love how the look is romantic, soft and inviting. I especially enjoyed seeing the full picture then a close-up of the vignettes on the side tables or mantles. You will not be disappointed! Purchase this book!!

I get to see Carolyn's inspiring work every fall and spring in Warrenton.
Her designs are practically beautiful, comfortable, homey and inventive.
The warmth of her personality and love of friends and family come through her
work. What a gift.

On the whole, I liked the rooms in this book. Maybe a little more shabby chic than I care for...please lose the baggy white slipcovers. So many of the sofas hiding under the slipcovers were probably better looking and did more for the decor than the yards of white canvas did.

As part of her series of books on the French Interior style, Carolyn Westbrook presented this 160 page book with sharp photos by Keith Scott Morton.
Notable aspects of this work are the use of the color pink, bouquet curtain ties, distressed furniture to add a bit of "shabby chic" to the mix ( Not my style personally, though), modern pieces, use of the color French blue, the use of statues and busts as necklace and rosary holders, replicas of Michaelangelo's "David", St. Francis of Assisi, and elegant chandeliers.
"My love affair with romantic French Style is evident from all the objects I've collected over the years." muses Westbrook in this publication.
Readers are certainly in for an enjoyable and informative view of them.

I have a lot of books on French style decorating, and this is one of my favorites. It shows decorating in several modes: French country, Farmhouse, Traditional, Modern, and Bleu.

I haven't read all the text, but the photographs are superb. There is a mix of full room views and vignettes for each style. You'll see plenty of inspiration for using what you already have in a French way, whether it's tabletops, furniture, or wall decor. Maybe you won't stack a dozen used toe shoes in a bookcase (one of the photos), but you can put a lamp on a book to give height variation on your hall table.

I look forward to reading the text and absorbing the lessons in the photographs for a long time to come.

This is definitely a Texas spin on French décor y'all, which means there are few elements that give Gallic interior design its signature charm: genuine age, use, and individuality. Tables are smothered in linens and flounces and froufrous abound--very showroom-y.

If you really want to have a French inspired home, you're better off looking at the genuine article, such as the lovely magazine "Campagne Decoration" or blogs such as "Jeanne D'Arc," the French version.
