A contemporary romance set in the outskirts of Paris and Nice. Madeleine Smythe is not looking for love. Wealthy businessman Jean-Luc is a man who likes to have life under his control. She intrigues him from their first meeting. Told in the third person, French Restitution is full of sizzling romance with a few suspenseful twists and turns. 4 enjoyable stars

This was a quick and easy read with the right amount of intrigue and romance to keep me turning the pages. A slow burn with the real action right at the end but at no point was I bored.

***spoiler***

When Madeleine’s car breaks down she is rescued by the charming Jean-Luc. Vowing to never follow in her mother’s footsteps Madeleine shies away from any form of relationship. When a holiday romance turns into something more she runs from her true feelings. I don’t want to give much more away but I will say that there is a twist that I really didn’t see coming. In hindsight I probably should have but was so intrigued with what was going on that for once I didn’t try to figure out what was going to happen next and just enjoyed the story.

I'm a sucker for a good love story. This one fit the bill. Jean-Luc and Madeleine's demons were believable, making their journey to overcome so they could trust, not only each other, but themselves was a good lesson to remember, as well as kept me turning pages right to the end. The added thriller story line also compelled me to keep reading. (I started last night--finished in the wee hours of the morn--no sleep for me.)

It's the mark of a good read if you go onto the read the teaser chapter for the next in the series and then want to hit the "yes, I'll have it now". And yes, I want it now. A good read and I'm looking forward to the next installment. Roll on French Restoration..

This was a quick and easy read. It was fun, romantic, sexy and carried a twinge of suspense. Madeleine wasn't looking for love and Jean-Luc needed everything to be under control. Under HIS control! I must admit that I couldn't understand how they grew to love each other so fast. Perhaps it was love at first sight? Maybe some people fall in love quickly? Anyway, I didn't care much for the sex scenes as I'm really into plots and conflicts. This book definitely had conflicts - Madeleine's resistance towards love and her reluctance in accepting her emotions, and Jean-Luc's overprotectiveness towards Chantal.

The main characters were developed quite well. Unfortunately, I can't say the same for the other characters. Chantal remains a mystery! I mean, I know she suffers from nightmares and all, but I couldn't connect with her character. From being careless and free, she was suddenly portrayed as someone confident and mature enough to make good decisions at the end of the book. How did that happen? What about an explanation as to what happened to cause her to be that way? Jean-Luc did say that she witnessed her parents murder. But nothing else was said of that later. Could it be that all will be revealed in the second book? I hope so! I wanted to know more of Danielle too. She had been in Jean-Luc's life since he was young. Would have been nice to know more about the woman who helped raise him.

Oh, and Madeleine's selfish mother! I didn't like her mom at all. The author definitely portrayed Barbara quite well.

A holiday fling that turns into something more. Yup! That's what this book is all about. If you're looking for a quick fun read, then this is the book for you. I know I enjoyed it in one sitting :-)

Madeline Smythe is jaded against love thanks to the exploits of her mother. On another journey to pick up the pieces following another of her mother’s failed relationships Madeline is certainly not looking for love when the charismatic Frenchman Jean-Luc comes to her rescue. Madeline is a strong independent woman determined to rely on no one but herself. She agrees to stay with Jean-Luc at his chateau until her car is repaired, but she refuses to acknowledge any true feelings towards him. Jean-Luc is a dominant businessman accustomed to controlling all things around him. Jean-Luc has issues of his own such as his free-spirited but somewhat troubled sister, Chantal. Falling for Madeline, Jean-Luc is exasperated when she chooses to return to her life in England without him. He decides to give her time to realize her feelings for him and return on her own. He doesn’t realize he is still attempting to control the situation. Another text from her mother sends Madeline into rescue mode her and sets the story on its heels just as Madeline accepts her feelings for Jean-Luc.

In all French Restitution is a quick fun read with everything a good romance novel needs; a sexy man, a little intrigue, a strong woman, great sex, and obstacles to the happily ever after! As an added bonus, there will be a follow up book with Chantal’s story and I can’t wait to read that one as well.

French Restitution is the story of what happens when two people meet by happenstance and their lives become immediately intertwined due to mutual need and circumstance. In this case, the heroine, Madeline, experiences car trouble while driving through the French countryside and is rescued by a handsome, wealthy businessman, Jean-Luc. On her way to "rescue" her mother from another failed marriage, Madeline has learned from her mother's multiple bad marriages how to stay happily single. She keeps men at arm's length, letting them into her bed but not letting them get close to her heart. In the beginning, Jean-Luc seems content that their relationship is purely physical; however, he quickly realizes that what he has with Madeline is more than just sexual chemistry. With a backstory that includes a plot twist of intrigue and suspense, French Restitution is an enjoyable, quick read, perfect for taking to the beach or on vacation. With a little "editorial love" to fix the punctuation and other minor errors, this book could easily earn five stars based on the wonderful characters and the intriguing storyline.
