When Madeleine’s car breaks down she is rescued by the charming Jean-Luc. Vowing to never follow in her mother’s footsteps Madeleine shies away from any form of relationship. When a holiday romance turns into something more she runs from her true feelings. I don’t want to give much more away but I will say that there is a twist that I really didn’t see coming. In hindsight I probably should have but was so intrigued with what was going on that for once I didn’t try to figure out what was going to happen next and just enjoyed the story.
The main characters were developed quite well. Unfortunately, I can't say the same for the other characters. Chantal remains a mystery! I mean, I know she suffers from nightmares and all, but I couldn't connect with her character. From being careless and free, she was suddenly portrayed as someone confident and mature enough to make good decisions at the end of the book. How did that happen? What about an explanation as to what happened to cause her to be that way? Jean-Luc did say that she witnessed her parents murder. But nothing else was said of that later. Could it be that all will be revealed in the second book? I hope so! I wanted to know more of Danielle too. She had been in Jean-Luc's life since he was young. Would have been nice to know more about the woman who helped raise him.
Oh, and Madeleine's selfish mother! I didn't like her mom at all. The author definitely portrayed Barbara quite well.
A holiday fling that turns into something more. Yup! That's what this book is all about. If you're looking for a quick fun read, then this is the book for you. I know I enjoyed it in one sitting :-)
In all French Restitution is a quick fun read with everything a good romance novel needs; a sexy man, a little intrigue, a strong woman, great sex, and obstacles to the happily ever after! As an added bonus, there will be a follow up book with Chantal’s story and I can’t wait to read that one as well.
